I can attest and say the same.
Dont worry man, in an upcoming patch they are going to make classic flying available. Im waiting on that before I seriously play the expac. Im not a fan of dragonriding either. Whats funny is the responses your getting
You can go somewhere with that statement. Blizzard is adding classic flying in an upcoming patch We won
I donāt think you won, it was never really a competition. Thereās pros and cons to both flight methods and blizzardās plan was likely if not always to add static flight to the new world later in the expansion anyway.
Speaking as someone who has gotten gold in every single dragon race on the islandā¦ I donāt think I could handle being forced to use the flying we had before anymore.
Maxing out all the glyphs transforms the experience.
TLDR: My answer is that I can tolerate it pretty well because Iāve got a ton of experience with flying and with obstacle avoidance. What follows is a semi-professional attempt to rate how hard it actually is. (That answer will be different from person to person.)
OK, weāre about eight months in, so Iāve had enough time to think about dragon-riding to give it a rating on the Cooper-Harper scale: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CooperāHarper_rating_scale
There are three primary questions to ask.
- Is it controllable?
- Is adequate performance attainable with a tolerable pilot workload?
- Is it satisfactory without improvement?
For comparison, I think everyone would agree that legacy flight is definitely a 1. Itās controllable, you get adequate performance automatically, and no improvement is necessary.
Considering dragon-riding, my answers are:
- Yes, itās controllable. Iāve experienced little difficulty with directional control, or with gaining altitude when I need to.
- Yes, adequate performance is attainable with a tolerable workload. I regard vigor management as ātolerable workload.ā
- Yes, itās satisfactory without improvement. Note that this is with all glyphs gathered, and the skill tree filled in.
From there, Iād give dragon-riding ā¦ a 3. That is, āminimal pilot compensation required for desired performance.ā Itās got enough quirks to make it interesting. You can go hella fast, but you do have to pay attention to where youāre going and what youāre doing.
Now, this is a subjective scale. People with motor control or motion sickness issues may go as high as 6, 9, or 10, depending on where they hit their first āno.ā In my opinion, legacy flight should be made available for their benefit.
You must be triggered. I was responding to someone elseās ātake it or leave itā comment. Not everyone likes Dragon Riding so they are adding classic flying, get over it. You guys that like it are funny with your responses. Im not shading anyone that likes it BUT you certainly are "must be skillā¦" and all other comments. Skill in a game thats not a flight sim? What critical skill does DR provide to clearing a raid or instance? None, okay you fly faster, thats nice but sucks if your farming mats/nodes which from other comments some ppl dont do. Also to get the glyphs you have to engage in DR, right? So the solution is to keep doing something you dislike and it will get better?? Yall sound like FF14 players āonce you get past the MSQā¦ā
I use flightpaths as much as I can because Iām always listening to a youtube video, and when I can, I alt-tab out and watch while public transportation gets me there.
If you dont like it and have trouble with it, yeahā¦thats your choice or issue and no one has any authority to bash you over it. And its childish to do so.
If you havent figured it out by now, I dont see how you will in a month or a year.
if you dont like it with four vigor, nothing is going to change to make you like it with 6.
Its the same thing, 3 vigor or 6, just a little fancier with more.
if you dont like it now, its unlikely you ever willā¦and that is entirely ok.
So immersive.
I donāt like dragonriding because it was a lazy copy of a system from guild wars and it could be so much better. Old flying is slower, yes, but thatās usually all anyone else can point out because theyāre basically the same but one version doesnāt let you make quick turns or hover because of ārealismā in a fantasy game. When you take realism over what feels good and whatās fun, you lose.
Please Blizzard. Include regular flying alongside Dragon Riding. Consider regular flying your family car and Dragon Riding the sports car.
get more points and skills for flying. it gets better.
hated it at first and still do but after a while it gets tolerable and imo fun at times. in wpvp i like to bait people fly close to them and they always try to net me XD then i run away just to piss them off. usually they attack me first thus why i do this but i know itās annoying them
Dragon flying both feels better and more fun than old flying.
It can be a bit fun to spam āgo fastā button, but then you run out of vigor and it feels bad again. Agree to disagree.
If youāre constantly running out of vigor, then youāre doing it wrong.
Practice, and once you truly learn the system, you will never run out of vigor again.
Iām saying itās only fun when Iām spamming fast buttons. You have to glide to avoid losing vigor, which is basically just old flying but it cost to move upwards and you canāt hover.
You clearly have no idea what inertia or momentum is.
Start every flight by going really high, then fly at a downward tilt. This quickly builds you more vigor. Before you get close to the ground, repeat the process. I have done flights over 8000m easily doing this with no total depletion of vigor, and in record time.
Itās truly that easy.
so i have been practicing and have been getting a bit better at this dragonflying. still seems kind of clunky. at 14 glyphs now. still having trouble flying upwards. thanks for all helpful responses.
Old flying can do just fine, it is a fantasy game after all.
So fly real high, then fly at a downward tilt to make it more like old flying? Interesting.
Yeah, not particularly āfunā or āengagingā gameplay for me.
