How do people die so early on?

Just curious, I remember my first time on HC I would die early on too but I learned and I always make toons past level 30/40 now and usually my deaths are due to DCs rather than skill based reasons.

If you routinely die before level 15, what are you doing to get into that predicament?

Maybe we can give you some tips and advice.

There are lots of things, and if you actually did hardcore you could know them. It’s extremely obvious what kills people.

  • Going into caves and getting hyperspawned
  • Not moving zones and doing orange quests
  • Getting killed by Elites you didn’t know spawned where you are
  • Trying to move through Wetlands rather than swimming
  • Stitches
  • Whelps in Redridge
  • Redridge itself
  • Issues in dungeons
  • Getting netted and chain pulling
  • Murlocs
  • Doing Class Quests the moment they pop up

If you haven’t seen anyone die to those you 100% have not played on a Hardcore Realm lol

I’d say the biggest reason is probably lack of familiarity with classic wow in general (quests, where to go, mob strength, etc.). If you came from retail, then yeah there’ll be a steep learning curve.

My gut is, from my first hand experience playing this the first time, is that low level players (ie below 10) are hitting the bad luck series of crits, misses, etc that just happen when you kill a lot of enemies. I had this happen twice on my Priest where I was certain I had the HP and mana to take out a same level enemy and 30 seconds later I’m fighting for my life because a whole bunch of misses and crits have drained my health and mana. Without some quick ā€œoh s***ā€ thinking and knowledge of the class and game mechanics I might have died.

In the 10-15 range it’s probably lack of gear, overpulling, overconfidence, or running into that darn elite.

My bank toon died this morning. First death. (Luckily I hadn’t mailed too much yet). I think not realizing in my brain to be more careful on lower level toon than my 23 main got me. Not to mention hyper spawn Murlocs but that’s the way it goes. When I roll a new bank I’ll get them to 10 or 15 first before sending anything and then just park ā€˜em.

Should make another thread titled, ā€œhow do people die to DCs?ā€

I’ve never died to a DC and don’t understand how it’s possible. :woman_shrugging:

I actually had my first DC yesterday. I was swimming from Dun Morogh to Menethil and the ferry appeared on top of me.

Luckily there were no mobs around for days. Came right back in and now I’m in Darnassus preparing for my next adventures.

Now that you mention it, I think I’ve had this sort of DC before as well.

Still can’t stop making threads about that, can you?

Never?? It’s easy, you are in the middle of a fight, and the dc happens, your character stays in the game fighting, and you do not, character can only do so much without you.

Or, you spawn back in having already been attacked with your health close to 0, three things fighting you and no way out.

Or, you are on a zeppelin the game goes wonky and you fall to your death. Or dc’d in an elevator.

There are a lot more ways, but those are the three main ways I have died to it.

Honestly, I don’t think I have ever died to a DC, no. It’s possible that I have and it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me, because it wasn’t HC, and deaths happen fairly often, but I don’t recall ever dying to a DC.

I have died coming out of a BG and being on a mount between flight points, then falling to my doom… but that’s also not something I’d expect to happen in HC.

You are so lucky!

Maybe! But this is exactly the type of conversation that precedes a DC death in HC…

Will report back later.

I mean… just read the deathlog. 90% of the deaths are the same culprits every time. You got the kobolds in Elwyn, the defias caves in westfall, the orcs that hide behind the rocks in redridge… oh and tons of rogues die doing their class quests.
