Don’t worry, no one would be bothered if it was a company like McDonalds. Their deep caring for the law, as they so proclaim, is selective. But how dare you not care about the law, only as it pertains to select companies they are loyal to. Hahaha.
Let people have their fun jeeze, it’s not like their getting paid. And if even so it probably falls under fair use.
You can look up tons of WoW parody’s on YouTube, are you going to report those too? Unless these guys are making millions off of WoW license, the lawyers at blizzard aren’t going to give a junk. I know this because I’m in the music industry.
Good reason our economy is positive and the Eurozone is going into a recession. Although our corporations are definitely getting a little out of control.
An underlying assumption by the OP is that the people who published the remix to Spotify did not, in fact, ask for permission first. Maybe they did? Then all this discussion is moot
It’s fine if people care. Copyright infringement does exist. But it’s usually the person or company who becomes aware of the infringement, and they take care of it - if they wish to. I am sure Blizz has a functional and large legal department.
Screw copyright, especially on music. The original copyright in the US was 15 years. Now it is something like 90 years past the death of the creator. Big corporations paid politicians to change that. They broke the social contract on copyright so I have no problem with piracy.
It’s especially ironic that Disney made their name on the back of Grimm’s Fairytales and they were the driving force behind the extension.
Illumona randomly came across it, not specifically seeking out things to report.
Why does someone need to get something out of it? Can’t they just do it out of respect for the original artist’s work? There’s probably nothing wrong with it, but I fail to see why thsee questions are even warranted.
Yup. Exactly.
I was just suspicious if this was the type of person who would call the cops on someone for j-walking and was curious to confirm such. Just a bit of curiosity, and I know it can be taken insultingly but I just don’t see why one would waste their time otherwise if they’re not gaining anything.
I didn’t realize sending an email was some huge waste of time that warranted your concern— or any of our concern, for that matter. Illumona didn’t make some big, dramatic deal out of it. Just saw it, thought it might be best to report it, and will move on.
This isn’t some major issue. It’s just reporting a possible heads up. Though they’d probably know already anyway, so it’ll probably amount to nothing but a solid minute of sending an email.
Because there Americans. It is the law.
It wouldn’t be so irritating if they didn’’t demonize them at the same time.
“Down with MegaCorp 2000! OMG did you see the new iphone 6xR4?”
I am an American. And I truly couldn’t care less. I just play the game to log on and kill stuff sometimes. I don’t pay attention to what a gaming company does, other than the games they make.
So I find your need to classify ALL Americans in this way idiotic.
Because when the day comes that someone has stolen from you, and no one around you cares, and instead tells you to shut up already, you’ll finally understand.
Except, for there to be “theft”, you have to deprive someone of their property. No one has deprived Blizzard of the music they wrote, and I would go so far as to say no one is actually purchasing that music. And the techno music you found… If someone wanted to purchase the Blizzard music, do you think they would find the techno music and decide it was “close enough” and use it instead?
Blizzard has a bunch of legal people who take care of such stuff.
If the OP knows about the supposed infraction, they probably already know as well.
“Fair use” allows a lot of leeway for satire and parody of other people’s Intellectual Property, even to the extend of making a buck. Watch a few episodes of Simpsons, Family Guy, or South Park for proof of that.
Unless the song sucked or was offensive in some way who cares if these guys wrote a song making fun of WoW?
Actually, there might be evidence that the aliens DID come back and have a long talk with the intelligent life forms.
…Perhaps, one day, if we ever figure out what the squirrels and honey bees are dancing around for, we’ll have a clue what the aliens told them.
But like someone else said, is it technically “piracy” if they aren’t making any money off of it? I can think of several Youtubers that have made parodies of various songs to tie in with WoW music videos, “My Base” is the first one that comes to mind. This is pretty similar.
If its a parody of an original then its not copy right infringement . The supreme court in 94 ruled that parody is protected.
They were, no doubt, the bestest sixth grade hall monitor EVAR!!!@!
Apply your own standards to yourself. Why is it your problem what Astrius does? I didn’t realize that someone voicing their opinion warranted your concern?
Should everyone run our opinions by you to make sure they are Rhielle ApprovedTM?
P.S. Yes, what you’re doing is so bad that I’m defending Astrius.
