… instead of a dragon mount?
A poster in a thread on a different topic mentioned it and said you just drop the dragon mount but I cannot figure out how to do that without it ended in disaster.

You have to sit there on a mount until right when the timer goes up, and then use Soar. You end up with a bit of time handicap, but it is still fun.
It’s buggy and not optimal, you have to use soaring AFTER the race starts so you will be 1.5 seconds behind. Then you have the jump, sometimes that’s useful but most of the time it’s not. Sometimes the race will auto end before you start so you will just have to try again. All in all a problem that would be solved completely if we could just land without “dismounting” or better yet just turn soaring into a full fledged Dragonflying mount, perhaps with hover as the ground animation.
I don’t know that I like that idea.
I love flying on my dracthyr but am not a fan of dragon riding. At times I hopscotch across a entire zone mining just using soar and then have all my ?vigor? to climb up to the capital city.
ETA: Or they could give us the OPTION! (The yelling is for Blizzard, not you.)
I thought about trying this route, but it might bug the racing quests. Most likely these are hard coded to run with just mounts in current iteration.
Well, all that does explain why it kept ending in disaster.
Thanks all.
for everyone!
Perhaps a secondary way, embed the racing difficulty into the character picture selection. Picking either: normal, advanced and or reverse. Part 2 of this solution is having the racing officials themselves emit a starting trigger just like the buff points for the removal of the spider mines.
This way as a means of not starting kinda grounded at first, the starting effects will still enforce the stam start of 3.
They could based on how they give the option for dynamic flight or regular flight already
Just realized I put ‘up’ instead of ‘us’.
Have corrected it in the original post.
And I agree!
I tried to do this on my Drac, only to have her mount the default dragonriding proto-drake right away.
Not only does it not make sense, because…Y’know, Dracthyr. Wings. It also clears up a lot of screen space since the ‘mount’ isn’t particularly large.
Just stinks because due to how Soar works, you can’t just get going like you can on a mount, but maybe one day!
I do races with Soar all the time. Sometimes there is a false start, but making sure you do not wiggle around when you are hitting Soar helps. Otherwise the only problem I have seen is that you are permanently behind a second or so, and if you land you are just reset.
