How best to implement 2H Shaman

Nah there’s much easier fixes that don’t change the class and abilities. I don’t want the wheel re-invented. I just want the tire pumped up.

It pumps the tire up in a cool way. And SoD is all about changing the classes…

The problem on this particular issue is that Blizz has abandoned the iconic 2h shaman into a TBC-Retail dual wield version.

I don’t see anything cool about changing 2h enhancement shaman. Maybe a haste boost or making changes to WF proc rates

If they have to do something to 2H, I’d rather they turn it into more of a heavy hitter / caster style.

Add Shocks to Overload so you’d still have something in the Chest Rune Tier. You’d get extra damage and still be able to wield your 2H weapon while at the same time also helping Elemental (yay double dip!)

Add an extra effect to Lava Burst, such as “If Two-Handed Axes and Maces talent is unlocked, each time Flame Shock deals damage, there is a 20% chance it will make the next one instant cast.” Again, this keeps 2H Shaman in the same style of “Get in, hit, cast spells without stopping melee”. (Also would be fun to see I BEAT WITH AXE AND INSTANT LAVA BURST OVERLOAD GO BOOM!) Hands Rune Tier is done, now for belt!

Don’t really need to add anything here. Just take Shamanistic Rage and call it a day.

I’m sure we’ll get more Runes down the line, but I think at 25 this works well enough (since Shamans don’t even have Stormstrike yet).

I’m sorry to say this, but the tire was never well designed to have an engaging dps rotation with good dps and good scaling based on the gear available. Pumping up numbers alone won’t fix a lot of these classic classes, especially the hybrids. If they could, tbc and wrath would’ve done that instead of the tons of class changes and redesigns. They were already trying to improve the gear itemization by the time dire maul came out, but it wasn’t enough. Really should be redesigning it in a better way staying true to classic, in this case, being a 2 hand shaman with big windfury procs.

Yeah and a lot of us aren’t trying to put 24 inch rims on a old-school muscle car. We just want a tune-up. I want classic to remain classic just boost the bad specs a little so they fall in line with the rest.

Maelstrom with a 2 stack requirement is really all it needs.

Stormstrike cleave would be okay ish, unless hurricane makes a pop up.

Though would you want to see maelstrom as a weapon buff or a attack that on hit generates a stack? I would say make it a attack that generates additional stacks based on the attack speed of the weapon, that way you could have it needing 5 stacks to instant cast a spell but since two handers are commonly slower they generate more stacks per hit.

Stormstrike though in the talent tree atleast is only an additional attack with the next two nature damage sources on the target have boosted damage. I could see having it deal nature damage to the target, while also either having it deal additional nature damage while lighting shield is up or it chains while lightning shield is up. Hurricane or earthquake might be fun too.

Hell could have it that water shield makes stormstrike cleave consuming a orb, while lightning shield makes stormstrike either auto crit or deal additional damage like the target had hit the shaman consuming an orb of thier shield.

Water shield is a glyph. That would be unwise.

Not sure on that. In the same spot you could get molten blast that deals high threat, and so having it that using stormstrike an water shield to do a cleave/chain attack for aoe gives you a non high threat option (though that would be much later on if you are talking the stormstrike talent). And the only other option being lava burst that is single target.

Molten blast will oom you fast,
Lava burst i will choose first

Kinda hard to buff 2h without also making dual wield that much better. Would probably have to be a 2h specific rune.

Maybe something like this can work

Windfury Rune.
While wielding a 2-handed weapon, Windfury Weapon gains X% chance to activate with each successive melee attack for 20 seconds. Stacks are consumed upon Windfury Weapon activation.

Might make fast 2handers better than slow ones though. Which i am not sure we want.

Love this!

Fast 2 handers are already better, none exist in endgame.

So since really lava as a element fits dw quite well. I was thinking what element or combo element would match two hander really well, and I kept coming back to frost/ice since it is a element of slow lumbering power. And I keep coming back to the idea of a strike or attack that would debuff a target making it that your next frost shock would deal additional damage or do a eruption of frost aoe damage. The other one would be stormstrike or a rework of maelstrom making it a true active strike dealing nature damage that is tied to our lightning shield for procing the damage of the orbs.

Though I can say that getting two hander doing frost would get us a non-nature/fire based spec to run in molten core and other dungeons that have resistance to nature/fire based damage.

This is probably the biggest issue with DPS shamans at the moment. They cannot effectively do damage in either MC, BWL, or AQ. Because of resists/immunities to their damage types.

I thought of this a day or 2 ago.

I’d also add a mana cost reduction, or even a mana gain function like Crusader Strike has. Vanilla Stormstrike is 21% base mana which is awful, and Crusader Strike is free now and gives you 2% mana. Just make Stormstrike free and give 2% mana. Make it a chest slot rune (w/ the 5% hit and SS CD reduction, all in one rune) so you can choose between Dual Wield or 2-Hander Specialization chest runes.

Blizz can support both and not throw vanilla gameplay in the garbage this way … though one will probably become mathematically better than the other, which makes me wish they just never added dual wielding at all, and only focused on augmenting the vanilla Enhance gameplay better to begin with rather than replacing it.

So i am not sure we need the 5% hit for a two-hander version of dw spec rune, since you need quite abit more hit to get the cap for dw. I could see still having it give you the spell hit though, worry that if they had it give both hit an spell hit it would get too good giving two hander too much of an advantage in gearing.

Thing is here that mana if we are talking at 40 level bracket we do have mana spring totem that gives 6 mana every 2 seconds with a 1 min duration. Dont see much other options for a water totem to use other than healing stream totem.

You could also start a pull with FT or FB and then switch to WF after two or three hits to avoid this.
