Tried curseforge. Tom Tom installed with it broke my game. Had to manually add classic. Don’t recommend.
My main criteria is do I trust the company/people that made the software.
- It seems to me that Ajour is open source so I can probably trust it.
- Wowup seems to be a one-man project whose trustworthiness I have not yet been able to ascertain, so I have questions about it.
- And Overwolf seems to be an overseas private company and that will take a lot of work to earn my trust. There seems to be some controversy in their past but I can’t figure out what it is.
As far as I know the main issue is that the ad system used in their software wasn’t/isn’t sandboxed properly and Overwolf isn’t diligent in screening their ad providers, meaning that some people were getting infected with malware through malicious Overwolf ads. Actually pretty similar to the controversy that Wowhead has been through numerous times by now, except in Wowhead’s case at the very least there’s a decent first line of defense in the form of an up-to-date browser and adblocker.
Same as always, go to the addon site and click “Download.”
I am using wowup for my updates. Overwolf only supported Catalina and above which I will not upgrade to due to some ongoing issues with eGPUs
