You really can’t even use flash of light in the raid or else people will die. Gotta use holy light pretty much exclusively which makes them kinda trash imo. Should improve next phase
Priest has just gotten a lot of its tools front loaded (as well as Penance being a bit overturned imo).
P2 a lot more Healer specs will come online I feel.
Was very suprised theyd front load it like that so much. May have been a design choice to facilitate both factors having a strong healing class for BFD.
Cant wait to see next phase runes.
Legion type healing would be great. Melee damaging healer.
-beacon is complete trash, the mana cost and uptime are a joke, and it is 100000% a better choice to take crusader strike and sit melee to give yourself back 20% mana/minute (approx)
-inspiration exemplar is incredibly situational, and if you’re sitting in melee rebuke (would) be a good option to add utility but it’s on the GCD because bad design
-the third rune slot is going to be Horn of Lordaeron, which is again nice utility but doesn’t help for healing output
So, no AOE, no cool healing spells, the non- obvious choices actually do add reasonable utility to the class (weak Regen skill, shaman utility buff overwrite, and either fear/sleep mechanic skip or interrupt). Plus you’re wearing leather as a best case scenario for sp. Plus rank 1 FoL is underwhelming, and down ranked Holy Light sucks because the low level versions have awful scaling from lower cast times.
Holy is virtually non-existent at 25, should be “ok” at 40 with shock and hopefully better runes pushing us to either be utility lords (which would be cool if we started throwing temp buffs), but we still won’t have magic dispel, and it definitely looks like they’re leaning towards making holy paladins sit melee (if the design was considered and not just an afterthought/zero planning).
Priests got mana efficiency and output via fun non-vanilla spells on top of their currently unique defensive magic dispel utility. PoM even got a more interesting bounce mechanic than modern WoW has since you can force it off with healing (though they unfortunately kept the vanilla no stacking of HoTs/PoM mechanic for all healers).
Druids got the best or competitive group healing, but have trash mana efficiency compared to priest.
Shaman mostly still cast boring vanilla spells since Earth Shield is useless garbage and healing rain is mediocre compared to WG (I use it but I’m not sure it’s really worth using). They do get a ton of mana restoration from shamanistic rage and water shield though, so they don’t feel exactly like a vanilla healer.
Mages original blizzcon design was more upfront healing for less mana and beacon wasn’t as strong, but they ended up making them entirely balanced around expensive beacon healing that’s balanced around having several beacons up at once.
Paladins got a sub-par version of beacon that’s too expensive with too short a duration at level 25 and no other meaningful healing tools that change them from vanilla. Their fear aura is nice but mostly useful in PvP.
As much as people complain about priests (and the WSG DR buff magnifies their power more than in other areas of the game), I think SoD would be terrible and not at all fun for healers if all healers were brought down to vanilla level healing. I think the other healers need to be brought up to priest levels of output and efficiency and preferably done so via interesting runes so we don’t have to spend as much time casting generic/boring vanilla spells.
Yeah, it would be nice to have melee damage heal allies. OR maybe have divine plea, I think it was called that gives mana back to use.
From what I’ve seen they struggle with mana.
Paladin is worst healer, not sure how rsham is cause I am alliance.
Paladin will most likely be the worst healer till 60.
Paladin didn’t get healing runes as cool as the other healers but our output is fine. On par with Shaman and only slightly below Druid (Mage healing is low but they add good damage to make up for it). Priest is just far ahead of everyone. That being said, mana shouldn’t be an issue, beacon helps with output, and Flash of Light is more than enough in raid alongside your cohealer (but Healing Light when people get chunked). You should be able to put up similar numbers to your cohealer if you’re not slow and lazy and as long as your raid is taking enough damage. In dungeons it’s not hard, either.
Holy Pally is not bad, it’s good and quite fun. Priest and Druid are just a bit overpowered right now with the new runes. That doesn’t make us bad. It just makes them OP. We’ll get more talents to help in P2 and hopefully cooler runes.
Pally are good single target, which they have always been.
They also rely heavily on crit, which they just don’t have yet. At 60 pally will likely be the undisputed best single target healer, but at 25 they are pretty weak.
You’re assuming way too much about the next 3 rune sets (40, 50, 60; assuming each level band comes with runes).
For all we know, Druids might get some rune that causes Healing Touch to put Rejuv and Regrowth HoTs on the target, with another that has a chance to reset the CD of Swiftmend when one of their HoTs ticks. With a final one that causes Wild Growth to also apply Lifebloom at one stack per cast of Wild Growth.
This is fair
nah the mana issues are solved in molten core and really even before that unless your boss kill times are incredibly slow and you refuse to use consumables.
wasnt the original beacon like a permanent buff that didnt need to be refreshed every minute? dont understand why that cant be the case again if so
No this is the original Beacon but that’s not really our issue. We overcome the Beacon mana issue fairly quickly in BFD when we and our raid start getting gear. We just didn’t get cool new healing runes that compare to the ones Priest/Druid got.
Beacon has always been a very boring ability.
The biggest brained paladins always put beacon on themselves and then delete their bars, because who needs em when you’ll never die
Paladins have always been mediocre healers until they get some raid gear as they need lots of crit. This hasn’t change in SOD, and right now they are probably the weakest healer. Their healing issues are compounded by flash of light being rank 1 and a level 20 spell, while rank 2 is at level 26, meaning they need to use Holy Light which burns through mana.
That said, a holy paladin like all healers, even those non heal spec can easily heal most 5 man dungeons if they have an Int set and are at an appropriate level. While they suffer more in raids due to poor mana efficiency, with most raids brining a priest, they should be adequate as a second healer.
Though…an interesting spin would be a rune that makes all our healing spells always crit. BUT…we no longer regenerate mana (even from S/JoW and BoW or Innervate).
Those thinking this would be “OP” need to remember that you’d still want to use things like Seals and Judgements to keep Light or Wisdom up on the target. And it we’d still have to Cleanse.
