How’s enhancement shamans? I’m trying to find something fun to play but I can’t! I’m getting desperate.
Very fun imo.
Totemic has a decent bit of complexity in its rotation and requires some general thought ie “when/at what stack count should I spend stacks of maelstrom weapon to extend hot hands”. It’s also pretty fast paced.
Stormbringer is mechanically simpler but faster paced than totemic.
Both builds are really fun but realistically nobody can ever give you an accurate answer because it’s subjective. You’ll have to just make one and try it yourself. But overall I think enhance retained a lot of what made it fun from TWW and gained some new things too that are also visually awesome (ride the lightning for example).
I’m not sure how it ranks competitively, but it’s deff fun. A little busy for me currently, but I’m very used to fury warr and its simplicity.
I leveled up one of everything in Lemix and have been playing around with all of the classes and specs during the Prepatch, and enhance is definitely one of the most fun specs in the game currently-it just feels like someone designed it into existence where some specs feel like they were pruned into existence. Both hero trees are also viable, which is rare.
My biggest gripe is enhance lost tools like thunderstorm and sundering disorient but as far as the damage rotation I love it. Lots of buttons to press and the visuals and sound effects are top tier.
This is the exact reason I’m looking to make the main swap to enhance, love that warrior got utility but there’s not enough there for me rotationally anymore.
Happy to hear you all are enjoying enhance currently.
Thank you! (For voicing what I’ve been thinking recently). I’ve been finding warr to be a bit stale now that I’m getting a better idea of ehn. Fury still makes more sense, but I think that’s because I know more about it/played it longer.
For example, on ehn, sometimes a mob will just get one-shotted and I’m left, standing over its smoking pile of ash, scratching my head.
I feel you. I’m just under 300 days played on this toon since vanilla and while I’m certainly not insanely talented, it doesn’t really feel like I’m engaging with the rotation at this point, its just simple muscle memory and that’s not meeting me engaged.
It’s extra alarming since I took most of this expansion off and just came back 3 weeks ago and I’m already getting bored in mythic raid (though thane in m+ feels great).
I haven’t mained enhance since s3 of DF so I’m pumped to get back into it, especially since that season felt like calculus compared to fury so I’m glad it’s a LITTLE pared down.
That’s kinda where I am, shammy usually had a bit too much going on when I casually played it. Feels way more approachable and understandable.
I like fury for its simplicity, but not sure I could ‘main’ that without loosing interest.
I gave it a shot and found it’s as difficult as it needs to be. There isn’t so much going on it’s hard to keep up with anymore. It’s a lot of fun too. But I’m Worried about its defensive kit
I’ve seen the same concerns from others. I don’t plan on PvPing, so not sure there… but for serious PvE content, might have to get creative with the whole tool kit
this is definitely a major factor for me. you really feel like you’re constantly blasting with how much lightning and fire and sound effects that are going out.
Enhance is squishy but I’ve found that better usage of my earth ele has helped me survive. as well, we have halfway-decent offhealing with insta chain heal. I’ve seen chain heal crit for 10k, which is not nothing.
In PvE it isn’t too bad. Its middle of the pack in regards to survivability after the recent buffs. It still only has Earth ele and Astral Shift to rotate as active cooldowns and Earth ele is honestly quite bad now, so its mostly just Astral Shift. Astral Shift is on a 1.5m CD (talented) and Earth Ele is on a 3 min CD, so the active CDs we do have are kinda long cds.
The best way to fix that is just update the Astral Shift choice node. Make Astral Shift 1.5m baseline so Planes Traveler makes it a 1 min CD if talented, and change Astral Bulwark to 2 charges of Astral Shift. So you can choose between short wall or 2 charges of longer wall.
As a PvP player I would say that enh having 2 astrals would make the spec OP. DH has 2 charges of blur which balances out the fact that they only have leech to heal and no direct heal. Enh needs something to stagger massive hits so we have time to react with a healing surge. Maybe like bring shamanistic rage back, when you use it all damage you take for 8 seconds will stagger like a brew master
Yeah I dont really care for Astral Shift changes or more active CDs at the moment since we got some decent passive survivability updates.
What I want for Enhance specifically (pvp oriented) is new honor talents like this:
-
Crash Lightning honor talent: “Crash Lightning does x% increased damage to primary targets and the weapon enhancement effect of Crash Lightning now reduces targets healing received by x%”
-
Defensive honor talent: “Healing Surge healing increased by x% and now reduces your physical damage taken by x% for x seconds” (would not work on allies, just the Shaman)
Enhance has no spec specific honor talents at all. Think its the only spec in the game with no spec specific honor talents. I think with the big nerfs to Enhance utility and its CC (loss of totemic recall, loss of Thunderstorm, Poison cleansing totem/Tremor on the same node, Lasso in honor talents being very hard to take, Incap from sundering gone) we can and should get an MS even if its a bit weaker than regular MS. Maybe its 10-15% instead of the 30-50%.
I do like the healing surge pvp talent idea you have. Hopefully enh gets some new talents. There are a lot of specs that have dead talents or talents that use abilities they don’t even have anymore. I’m sure pvp will get touched on at some point.
Yeah we have dead talents too ie electrocute, but the craziest part is we just have no spec specific honor talents at all. I know its because they took the two we did have and added them to the spec tree which was a very very good thing, those belonged in the spec tree, but I would’ve liked to see us get a couple to replace those. Ideally similar to what I posted above.
Enhance is actually terrible for NEW players that first start out - IT ramps up nicely though if you stick to it. Level 80 it plays extremely well. a Good learning curve across the board. I like it.
Hard disagree. Totemic Enhancement feels absolutely hollow compared to its TWW self. I feel like I’m playing Ret, just mashing whatever lights up. The Hot Hand extensions are a horrible replacement for a fresh Fire Mote off Surging Totem every 24 seconds as trades out reliability to double down on RNG as we’re not more reliant on Hot Hands getting random procs, and can be screwed over by bad MSW generation streaks during its window.
MSW spenders feel like they’ve lost their “BAM” factor as spenders, since they’ve been stripped down to only LB/CL, and we’re already unavoidably spamming out CLs every other GCD via Stormstrike and Lava Lash (which love to jump to neutral mobs we’re not in combat with, to boot). Voltaic Blaze still feels completely out of place in this spec, and it and Crash Lightning both being core rotational abilities in all situations means the single most apparent difference between our ST and AoE rotations is now whether we’re pressing Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning.
The condensed cooldowns feel clunky, and make no sense thematic sense how they were combined. Why does smashing the ground cause a weather event?? Why does the totem we stick in the ground line up with our wind cooldown? Our wolves feel absolutely pathetic now, when we even spec into them.
Its only saving grace right now is that the numbers are good enough that blasting through world mobs is too fast for the monotony to really set in, but the whole thing is so vapid that I shudder to think how bored I’m going to be repeating the same mindless mashing for 5+ minutes straight on a Midnight raid boss, like I’ve been sucked back to being stuck playing Stormbringer in Nerub’ar Palace.
I love voltaic blaze and auto chain lightning is super cool. I agree finishers feel weak compared to in the past. I never disliked elemental blast but I hated having a separate hot key for it, it should have just replaced bolt when talented. I like crash lightning being more effective and core to the rotation, the visuals and sound effects are awesome. Overall I’m not sure I like this version better than DF enhance but it’s still one of my favorite specs in the game.
