Housing Preventing Character Transfer

Long story short I had a back and forth with GMs in a ticket about my character being prevented from doing a server transfer because of an error that reads “This service cannot be used on a character that owns a House or Neighborhood.”

After confirming for the GMs that my character has no ownership or association with any housing related activities including reliquishing my house and leaving all neighborhoods my character was still unable to transfer and is continuing to get the same error message.

This was the last response from the GM on my ticket:

This is Specialist Game Master Vannthur.

I am sorry that we could not get back to you sooner. We currently have a high number of tickets and are working as quickly as possible to get to everyone as soon as we can.

I am also sorry for the trouble this character transfer has caused. The WoW team is currently investigating similar reports and are working to fix any underlying bugs as soon as they can. In the meantime, try removing Renray from her guild and have her evicted from any other neighborhoods she might be in.

If that doesn’t work, please report the issue on the World of Warcraft bug report forum to let the WoW team know that you’re also affected by this. They might not reply to your post, but they will still see your report and will continue working on this issue as quickly as they can.

Thank you for contacting us. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns related to your Battle.net account.

So just adding my name to the pile of people who are affected by this.

I’m also having the same issue. I’ve done the following:

  1. Transferred ownership of my charter neighborhood (Razorwind Shores Map).
  2. Transferred the ownership of my house to an alt.
  3. Had the character who owns the house in the charter neighborhood get removed from the neighborhood. We noticed that when we did that, the plot could not be purchased by anyone else.
  4. Relinquished the house I had on the Founder’s Point Map, just in case.

None of those things helped. I still couldn’t do the server transfer. I’m going on 3 weeks now. I keep getting a generic response: “We are working on it, and we will let you know.” How they contact me if the ticket is marked as resolved is beyond me.

Coming back to say that I still have the same issue and have seen no progress on this.

I think its an important detail to add that I also had to transfer ownership of my charter neighborhood, and that’s likely the thing stopping both of us. It seems the common factor between both of us is that our characters created charter neighborhoods and that the ownership transfer isn’t being handled correctly.

I don’t know how to get that information in front of anyone who actually needs to see it but that’s almost certainly the core of the bug.

I was finally able to get it to work. I had to do the following steps.

  1. We transferred ownership of the neighborhood back over to the character that was server transferring.
  2. I transferred ownership of the house back over to that character.
  3. Once that was done, I transferred charter ownership back to my friend.
  4. My friend removed me as a community manager.
  5. I transferred ownership of my house back over to an alt.
  6. We also reloaded a few times just to make sure things “settled”.
  7. After all of that, I then did the server transfer.

My friend and I think that the initial charter ownership transfer didn’t register on the backend, and by doing these steps, we somehow “fixed” that internal check of the character having ownership.

Also another thing that was done, which I’m not sure matters, before we went through the steps is my friend transferred ownership of the charter to one of their alts on a second account and then transferred it back after they did their own server move.

Hopefully, this will work for you as well. I was able to complete the transfer this past Sunday.

This worked for me as well! Replicating these steps worked like a charm.

I swear I did all of these prior to the original post but maybe they finally did something on the backend.

Either way thank you for documenting and sharing these steps. Hopefully it helps someone else in the future!

We just had same issue. This works. To simplify further.

  1. Transfer Ownership
  2. Have them remove you as Manager
  3. Relinquish house
  4. Worked.

Thank you Alyannia!

I’m a little confused still, if you have any advice.
So I am a guildmaster + a charter neighborhood owner.

The character I’m trying to race change is NOT the GM of the guild, and it is also NOT the owner of the charter.

But both of these are associated via my account, and I can’t do anything about it without abandoning my guild. The charter is a ghost town as well and I can’t delete it (another bug in the game).

Does this character I’m trying to race change need to be completely disassociated just because it’s on my account? I can’t for the life of me get the error to go away :frowning:

I’m trying to transfer and I keep getting the same error message. I’ve already relinquished both houses and gave up on the neighborhood property, but nothing works.
