Hot Take: TWW makes shadowlands look good

The saddest part is that there were things I could appreciate about that expansion and what they were trying to do; Castle Nathria was great, Torghast was fun to dick around with and while I can’t say it was fun the maw was conceptually interesting in how they set up that zone in season one.

The issue was that having to grind anima, souls and torghast every week on every character while also juggling covenants and soulbinds and the god awful ness that was runecrafting combined with writing that felt more like bad fanfiction full of stuff that’s never properly explained and does incredibly stupid retcons just… it’s just… It’s like it’s mind cancer; a tumor that is growing inside of my thoughts and crushing all the others.

Correct. SL had nice content, but the drip-feed system was insufferable.

Shadowlands didn’t have enough solo content to keep one around, even if they did like it.

TWW, on the other hand? Everything a solo player could ask for.

Also the endgame systems of SL are what killed it, in addition to the terrible writing.

TWW has some terrible writing too, but the gameplay is still quite sound.

SL gets like a 2/10 from me, TWW being a 6/10 or so.

Anything around a 4/10 or lower, would probably get me to take a break. I’d just find better games.

I PvP most of the time, that is a multiplayer activity lol.

I play solo queues most of the time.

You are underestimating how many play this game alone, with PuGs. (And I’ve played several MMOs, all pretty much the same way.)

Solo queues are popular in multiplayer games.

I play alone, and meet people through that.

My actual friends quit yearrrsss ago. And they are 100% not coming back.

I dipped into Shadowlands from Classic around, I wanna say patch 9.2.5 and played through to learn DK in anticipation of Wrath of the Lich King Classic. I thought it was a pretty good experience overall.

Shadowlands seemed more consistent in the plot. However the plot just wasn’t very good. The narrative in TWW in all over the place as well as not being good at all.

Just the usual cynical appearing on the forums. Blizzard only “admitted” that SL was bad supposedly because all the cry babies during the pandemic. I played SL - it was amazing.

I played it and it absolutely sucked; best character in that whole expansion was sire denathrius and he ate it at the end of season 1.

Shadowlands plot was baffling nonsense; just an endless supply of gobbeldygook that was rarely if ever explained in a way that made any sense and the ending could be best described as infuriating due to how it tried to make Nipaal a more noble character then he was.

What problems? all the “problems” you mentioned were your perceived issues ie. all the features? do you just rant without thinking?

When people consistently repeat the same complaints about the expansion it’s not just me being prissy; the term “Choreghast” existed back in season 1 and the realization of what crafting runescribed gear (as in the “blank” proxy items that you needed as a component for your legendary) entailed basically caused me to give up on crafting for the entire expansion.

This isn’t even getting into how god awful The Jailer was or how Blizzard managed to piss off so many players by giving Sylvanas a redemption arc.

I’m not opposed to people having different opinions but it’s crazy the amount of revisionism people have done with Shadowlands more than any other expansion lol

And TWW isn’t? At least Shadowlands told a continuous story. That story may have been riddled with plot holes and retcons but at least it flowed in a general direction. TWW is all over the place both narrative and environment.
