Nah. Just as gold is created it needs to be destroyed.
After we had a 5 million gold luxury item this xpac, I’d like to hear no more talk of “gold sinks”, there’s obviously a ton of gold in the economy regardless of annoyances like repair bills and transmog fees that only serve to annoy normal, non-rich players.
Things like this have always bothered me.
Everyday in Suramar: Blades of the Fallen Prince strapped to my hips and mounted upon Invincible.
NPC’s be all “Hello Anarys, everything seems to be in order.”
Repair bills are the last thing I think about when people are failing content. Only concern I have is if my gear is good to go. It doesnt cost that much does it? We make plenty of gold running the content to cover it dont we? I’m not sure why anyone gets mad at people for degrading their gear. Is this a general thing?
The best gold sinks are costs we have to deal with continually. Things like repair bills, AH deposits, Xmog costs, azerite respecs, etc. Some have become less effective if their costs haven’t increased with the rise in amount of gold that players have, such as mail postage for example, but ones that are kept more up to date are better than things like brutosuar or spider mount.
Large purchases like that are only made by a small percentage of players and even when they are it’s a one time thing so at most it’s only a temporary measure for when the item/mount is first made available. after that it quickly loses it’s effectiveness.
For me the most important aspect of repair bills is that it’s a punishment for dying. Sure, maybe the death was the fault of a teammate, but in a multiplayer game, when one team member messes up the whole team has to deal with the consequences.
That’s true of moba games, team FPS games, MMOs, paper-and-pencil RPGs as well as real life situations like sports or a workplace.
So this is why we have the Crab Shank toy.
“I see that your swords appear to be screaming with the souls of the damned. I am sure that is perfectly normal”.
Why? There’s literally nothing else to spend gold on other than consumables. When we’re talking about things we need to spend money on, repairing is the only thing actually necessary and taking gold out of peoples’ pockets. It’s not a problem.
I agree. They wanted to make it more convenient for players.
But I think they went too far.
I don’t think repair bills should go. I do think Black smiths should be able to repair their gear using mats akin to the item, or a crafted item. Same for Leatherworking, tailoring, engineering, etc. etc.
Not to disagree with you, but there’s transmogrification too… Both buying new appearances from vendors that changed purchase from special currencies to gold, and actual transmogging itself.
There’s also money to give to your alts possibly for riding.
I’m talking from a necessity standpoint. One doesn’t need transmog, or consumables. Like, when we’re talking about need to buy things, what’s really on the list?
Riding skills, and repairing. S’about it.
Fine, take away repair bills. But you have to add reagent costs to spells again.
Oh and hunter ammo.
Repair costs could use a nerf but I wouldn’t out right remove it.
I gotta say though, I’ve been running LFR since I don’t really fancy bothering with raids for an expansion I don’t care about… but the gold cost of beating N’Zoth in an LFR group just to get a useless consumable is down right painful.
I’d refrain from the ad hominem, IMO.
No, and do not assume such.
Death already does. Repair bills shouldn’t be one of them.
What if we kept the repair costs in but only Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers and Tailors could repair peoples armor? You’d have to pay them and if there’s only one tailor in your raid
They tried that in Vanilla’s Beta.
It did not fly with the testers.
Yeah. A purpose that is no longer valid, IMO.
Tbh the only reason I have gold at all is just for repairing gear. As for the Ah I haven’t used it in years, so don’t need gold for the overpriced rubbish people try to sell lol. 99% of the gold I have on most of my toons is gold that has just built up over the years from using a vendor to sell trash drops, and from daily quest rewards. Never will forget doing those argent Tournament dailies, and all the other around Northrend for months just so I could buy artisan flying haha. But yeah a gear repair bill doesn’t bother like it did back in the day.
Yeah. Mounts do that.
I would be so grateful if we impaired no durability damage for boss fights that are shorter than a minute. Like if someone gets impatient and pulls a boss and leaves, then we all have to pay like 100 gold because of that one stinker!
