It’s quite literally raiding so I can do the part of the game that’s fun without the part of the game that’s fun (that is, to be very clear since I know some people here struggle to read, ACTUALLY RAIDING) being a massive drain on my gold and resources for the sake of “fun”.
It’s not “fun” to go to any random pug raid cause I want to raid and ultimately just throw away hundreds of gold in consumables that I will have to farm back later. The payoff in “fun” (raiding and pumping) isn’t large enough to counteract the “not fun” (hours spent farming). It is more “fun” to simply not use those resources unless absolutely necessary.
This is why literally everything in retail has over the top incentives to get people into the door of content so that the content isn’t just literally dead past a certain period of time. Because the opposite is classic where choosing to have “fun” comes with a penalty of “not fun” farming/grinding for hours. This is why you see so much raid logging in classic.

The thing is. Majority of the pugs aren’t dog poop. You can actually make a good amount of gold from boss drops if you don’t die a million times
I don’t think I ever made more than my consume costs in 2019, when all my consumes were cheaper. Maybe when we were doing AQ+BWL+Binding run? Those were guild runs though.

Having the same amount of guild raiders and only like 10% of the pugs may not be a problem for you but it does mean the game is way less alive.
If you support reducing the options and ways people can play that your stance, but I personally like people having options.

oy vey the loopty loops, for those at home we’re arguing the incentives and quality of pugs and the need for consumables on your alt runs which is rarefied atmosphere already (since obviously guild runs on your main are superior)
Gold is the only thing that will get people on to raid with some people (sad implications I know)
and they need gold for consumables (which are needed for fun) but can’t be bothered to farm the gold because farming gold is not fun so won’t buy consumes for fun because that is not fun.
so this gold comes from people who have to farm the gold? love to farm gold? or what other source could it be? hmmm Hate’s farming gold wants lots of gold, won’t do anything without consumes that cost gold but won’t farm it.

No, I put “fun” in quotations to make sure you actually read the words I was typing. I don’t like farming gold. I served my nickel farming Mara ghost mushrooms for 12 hours a day for months in 2019. Idk if you missed it or not but judging by how many people were complaining about the amount of people/bots there are on each layer on Anniversary you can’t reasonably farm anything in the open world. So that would push most players into dungeon farming (ex: Righteous orbs/ghost mushrooms/raw gold in SM/jump runs). It’s even less fun to farm gold when your options are so limited, especially so when that means the value of those options ends up skewed.
And yea, I won’t go to raids that are going to cost me more gold in consumes than it’s worth in entertainment value. I have fun raiding, I have a lot of fun raiding with my guild. I either don’t have fun or have less fun raiding with random pugs depending on the quality of the run.
The fact that I literally spelled out why things are the way they are in both SoD and very soon in Anniversary and you still jump to “you just want RMT gold” is exactly why the GDKP topic is so worn out. You’re just immediately biased on the topic.
Everyone raid logs in SoD. People raid logged a ton in 2019, there were people complaining about the raid logging BEFORE BWL EVEN CAME OUT. Anniversary is about to have AQ out, which is when the raid logging cycle really starts, as many guilds stop doing BWL+MC full clears to focus on AQ. And pugs struggle to clear AQ at all. Why does this happen? Because the cost-benefit of spending your time/consumes in a raid that may not clear/wipe loads, isn’t worth the time you have to spend farming. You boil it down to people being lazy and you must be oh so superior and blah blah blah. The majority raid logs because they value their time more than raiding with randoms. This is reality.
Edit: Funny thing to mention by the way, some of my best logs in every xpac came in GDKP’s after my guild went on break waiting for pre-patch/next xpac. GDKP’s in my experience were regularly top 20% of the playerbase in terms of quality, even when full of alts.
