So if I buy gems in Clash of Clans its because gdkp existed in classic wow? Or people are buying gold on Nightslayer because Koreans wanted to bid on items with gold in Everquest?
They’re a forum troll.
Oh I know, like 800 of his 2400 posts are replies to me
Blizzard being able to track trades is precisely why people have been given 2 week suspensions for getting dirty gold in GDKP, boosting, and cross server/mode gold trades and probably a major reason why 2 of the 3 are now banned.
Nah. Anyone that played since 2005 can tell you swiping was here before GDKPs. It’s always been here. The desire to skip hours of grinding to afford your epic mount, items, etc created the RMT business. Blaming it on gdkps to explain away why people are still doing it on anniversary is a bad argument.
Literally no one is saying it’s only GDKP, except the people who want GDKP back.
Yeah they stopped saying that after SoD proved it wasn’t. Go back and read posts in 2023 it was all “banning gdkp would get rid of almost all the RMT”. Goal posts just keep getting shifted
Yup, the only people claiming the GDKP ban would remove all rmt are pro-GDKP trolls. It’s purely an absurd strawman they invented.
But the ban has been great and very effective.
Really?
You wouldn’t say that right?
Oh yeah everyone knows this.
But the modern reliance on rmt that nightslayer is experiencing is directly related to gdkps
Are you serious? If its so egregious, why no perma?
I can actually agree with btw
Buying gold was a thing back in vanilla. Before botting really started to take off you had farmers who would play hunters and rogues and grind out mobs for gold sellers. They were fun to kill on PvP servers. They also hacked people’s accounts, since this was before the authenticator came to be.
In fact I remember Blizzard basically giving them away for free because account hacking was such a big problem that they wanted everyone’s accounts to be protected. Even in modern times accounts are compromised all the time.
However, gold buying was never as socially accepted or “widespread” as it is now. I’m pretty sure we even kicked someone from our guild back then who admitted they bought gold, but these days people happily brag about how half their guild is buying gold like it’s no big thing.
GDKP is just one major way that gold sellers can use to launder gold, shady players can benefit from RMT without having to buy it themselves, and the people who buy gold are encouraged to buy more gold.
You can certainly defend GDKP as a loot system. There’s arguments to be made in support of it, but don’t insult our intelligence by claiming it doesn’t promote or involve RMT.
People want gold buyers banned, but then whine when Blizzard does exactly that.
Banning GDKP was never going to remove RMT gold, but it did cut down on one major reason people would buy gold and cut down on the number of “innocent” players who had their accounts actioned from receiving dirty gold.
The fact is that by utilizing unsupported transactions such as GDKP, boosting, or cross mode gold swaps, you are benefitting from RMT. And that means more bots, more account hacking, and more inflation in the economy.
If people stopped buying gold, the multi-billion dollar RMT industry would focus less efforts on WoW.
Stop buying gold and stop participating in systems that are riddled with RMT. You’re risking your account and actively harming the integrity of the game we love.
Raiding creates the demand for RMT and is riddled with RMT gold. Should we ban it?
I mean…they literally brag about buying gold. The stigma is gone for these players. They actually think those players who don’t cheat are the saps. Thats the current environment, especially on Anniversary.
I thought gdkp caused this environment
If that’s your argument, can you see how on-top of that offering every item up for gold bid would increase the demand for rmt tenfold?
Because Blizzard investigates and determines that they weren’t the person who directly bought the gold. Usually the person who was directly involved in the RMT gets either a 6 month or permaban.
2 weeks I think is fair for a first offense, as many of these people did not know they were getting RMT gold. It wouldn’t really be practical to give so many players a permaban for it.
Basically it’s like this:
Person A buys gold.
Person A pays person B for a boost (or GDKP, or cross mode gold trade).
Person A gets a 6 month or permaban for buying gold.
Person B gets a 2 week suspension for being involved in RMT, even if they didn’t know.
Person B learns to only do unsupported transactions with people they absolutely trust.
Explain how you “launder gold” in a GDKP without 19-39 other players noticing?
The demand is already there, it would have 0 impact. You can buy gear for gold already, so the whales still RMT for it, and people RMT for consumes for normal raids.
The biggest benefit of gdkp is not gold, it is filtering out people like you from raids so I don’t have to deal with you
They can’t because the people complaining have never actually done a real gdkp, they just say its bad cause streamer said so
