I think things like it are kinda cool. Definitely not in the way it currently is where it’s some weird niche classic weapon that someone randomly tested. And can oom a healer in a minute. But having the ability to have different niche effects tied to your gear or weapons. I think that’s what embellishments should have been instead of the incredibly boring things we have right now. Reuse some of the ideas from those old classic weapons that popped up due to scaling. Have a mana burn effect, have a sundered armor effect, just a bunch of random effects from these old weapons. Now I don’t think they should all be really strong, just playable. If you keep losing by getting dampened by a comp, you could switch to mana burn embellishments to try and oom them before they can damp you. If your playing a double physical damage comp into a really tanky team you could go sundered armor embellishment for a bit of an edge or to help support your teammates damage. If they aren’t gonna give up the whole rpg part of arena they should at least have some of the things that make these games cool.
They should make it so you can coat your bullet or arrows in Kodo poo as a hunter. So if the first Aimed Shot/Rapid Fire out of Camo doesn’t kill you, the infection will after you desperately cower behind a pillar with your team.
nah just let pvp gear be reforged for giga-honor prices
How does that have anything to do with anything in this post?
Of the different ways wow has allowed PvP players to customize their character, reforging did it best by a country mile.
Not even close to what I’m saying? This is such a weird thing to want. You already have perfectly stated gear with crafted gear. There’s no reason to readd reforging just to change the stats on tier pieces.
Casters suffering brings me great joy. Christmas came early this year
I agree with you but zero chance they ever do this. Healers would have silvermoon city looking like 2020 Minneapolis.
i want to agree but when gimmicks end up incentivizing building and leaning into really bad gameplay checkmates
best example is this weapon which just incentivizes people to play things like outlaw fire
a comp that literally cant die for several minutes just stonewalling you into a mana loss
it’s the bane of every competitive game imo, unique and flavorful is fun but it has absolutely 0 place in anything competitive
Think there’s a potential way to balance it. For example have a super basic boring embellishment that provides a significant amount of main stat or some other stat, so in order to pick up the gimmicky options you are losing a ton. But those gimmicky options are still there for certain niche comps/ situations. They could also do this crazy thing where rmp isn’t a tank comp with infinite control like it has been the past few xpacs.
Mana burn items/spells should never come back. Hopefully they can fix it and keep those where they belong, in the past
Ya I agree with all this.
I think an RPG should have cool elements that you can flex and use in different situations and not the same cookie cutter talent build for the entire expansion that no one changes.
Obviously the mana burn weapon is overtuned and shouldn’t be from a classic weapon, but I like things that influence how you play in interesting ways.
Healers don’t have enough control over their mana bar for mana burn effects to exist.
i think it would be cool to see more cantrip weapon effects in the game. mana burn is definitely not something the game is balanced around anymore. I would love to have Gurthalak back though
basically asking for a different flavor pack of bfa corruptions
Yeah, no… we don’t need a mana-drain effect in the game. Healing is already annoying enough without every DPS running a mana-drain effect on top of MS effects and Dampening.
Admittedly, I’d be more open to “Cool effects” if they were actually cool for everyone, and not just DPS. The Healer options always seem to be something like, “Your healing spells and abilities are 1% more effective.”
It is very comparable. Just like this guy mentioned:
Corruptions, effects on items, reforging, embellishments, etc. They always make some room for customization in pvp, but not very much.
Reforging was the best one, easily.
Gurthalak, rogue Lego’s etc almost all of them were unfun for those who didn’t have them. Reforging was fun for everyone.
Oh no I’m starting to rub off on him
Just to be what some might call cynical, others might call pragmatic, do we really trust Blizz to introduce and balance yet another layer of variables in pvp?
My guy, we already have reforging 2.0 with crafted gear. It’s the same thing just better. How is that hard to understand?
