Horrific Visions & BFA - One Man's Blight

Honestly visions just suck. They’re just not fun content

laughs in tank

Lately i’ve been just sending my mind bender after the big dude and killing the little guys. I clear the bottom of the hill just in case I get knocked back. Getting knocked back down the hill actually isn’t too bad. If it happens I just slam levitate and it gets me some nice distance to be able to dps (think outside the box sometimes lol)

It helps to try to get higher up the hill than them too so you don’t get knocked anywhere else

So, here’s a few noob questions for visions.

Do you lose sanity by just taking damage, or does that happen on special attacks?

Would it be better to rush through an event pulling as many mobs as possible, or would it be better to take your time trying to take as little damage as possible(with a pet tank)?

The ghastly food thing wouldn’t help me as I’m never at risk of dying, but it sounds pretty cool.

You know OP, you could always video one of your runs and allow people to give pointers based on that.

So you passively lose sanity the entire run, however, there are minibosses/bosses that can also drain your sanity with attacks. There is also one mask that causes you to poop puddles that also drain your sanity.

It really depends on your aoe capability, and avoidance tactics. If the miniboss has unavoidable sanity drain attacks, this isn’t necessarily a good idea. However, bosses like the first guy in the dwarven district, are easily avoidable no matter how many mobs you have, so most tanks/high runners pull that entire quarter at once.

Saying, “others are passing 5 masks with flying colors” then going on to describe the EASY to understand mechanics does nothing to help. Those are explained and logical. Each mask you click on it tells you that and you have an icon to see what it does. It is what the game does not tell you that bothers me. Like turning your back to the boss or not looking at the eyes. Where in gods name does the game give you this tip? Nowhere. You only know through someone else telling you. Poor game design and implementation. It is a painful and not fun learning process.

I do appreciate your attempt to help. I just am frustrated at blizzards systems upon systems with very very little explanation of how they work. Games should not require researching multiple websites online to figure out how they work. That is poor design.

I’ve watched several, and it really skews melee. I haven’t solo’d masks, yet, but the people in my guild who are soloing 3-masks are all melee. Hunters have it easy, and melee DPS do, as well.

You need to do these in feral. Trust me.

ETA: I mention feral because you said you did it in the other three specs for druid. Feral is how I do ALL of my world content for the druid. It’s powerful in that regard. It’s not just about DPS in a 3-mask. Ranged have a much harder time, even if they’ve got great damage. The mobility afforded to the hunter by the pet tanking is what makes it an exception, and for my money, the bet’s on feral for druids attempting solo masks.

I’m SURE people will come in here and call me an idiot because they do 5-masks on the boomie erry day. Whatever. Feral. It will do the trick.

Ah, thanks for the info.

I think I’ve been going about visions a bit wrong. I’ve been taking my time with each pull. I think I might try to pull larger groups, as my AoE isn’t that bad.

Clearly this is not the truth if you are failing 3 masks.

I know it may be tough to understand. So let me clarify. I avoided all mechanics in my knowledge base. Which is full, due to playing this game at high level for a long time. I died to eyeballs on a boss that goes stealth. Where does the game tell you to face away from the eyeballs and boss? Nowhere. It is not a lack of skill or avoiding. It is the game having something that does not explain what it is. The only way you can know how this works is by researching online or seeing someone else do it or by being told.

That is garbage in my opinion.

Imo, visions are great content for one character. It’s what the chromie scenario should have been. Run a little bit more each run, practicing and perfecting your route. The one big suggestion I would have for single character first time runners. The second vision you do, the one when you have orbs, do not go and just kill thrall/alleria. Do the entire area they are in first, kill all the mobs. That way, you get to know the mobs, and their abilities, and you also get momentos, so you can go to harder areas faster. The key to visions is incremental improvement. When you go into a 5 mask, you should know every mob and what every mob does. Looking these up doesn’t really help since you’ll just forget them. If you die to them a few times though, they’ll be seared into your mind. Tentacle burrow on 5 mask, is deadly. Void buffet from void elementals above 2 stacks? Deadly. Last pack before Shaw? Super damage heavy. It’s just all about learning, and I think the majority of people’s problems from them is they just try to burst through and level up their cloak, the absolute worst way to do it.

In your opinion is K’bab a good food? I haven’t tried it, but it seems like I could just eat that a few times per run for a nice boost.

Yeah, Matthias is rough, but I learned to deal with the eyeballs as I was leveling up the cloak. When you’ve spent most of your runs in Orgrimmar (dunno if that’s your situation), learning the Stormwind bosses at higher levels can be rough.

The eyeballs, you have to grab matthias, and then move until you’re between him and the eyes. It takes a little practice.

I don’t know dude, I figured 95% of this out with trial and error. If you’re looking at the eye, and big purple jagged line is connecting you to the eye, and your sanity is going down it’s obvious something is up. An eye is a clue to look away. But in other cases of mechanics when you see sanity being drained, check who’s casting what, check your debuffs. It’s all kinda intuitive.

Exploration and learning are one fo the fun things about a game. I mean really, who wants a game that tells you everything step by step like a cooking recipe…

The ones claiming 5 mask is easy on low ilvl toons are the Same ones that tell people their tattoos felt like a massage.

Left arm is sleeved and though I survived it definitely still hurt lol.

You can only use it once every 3 minutes, and it only gives 100 sanity. It helps, to be sure, and you should eat one when it’s up between zones.

Definitely have some, but finding the sanity potions is basically the same thing, and there’s no cooldown.

He’s easy to do…

Watch the eyes casting, go hide behind a wall, let them go to you, move when they start casting again

He’s not a dps race he’s more of avoiding mechanics

I’ve just been turning my back to them or stepping between them and Matthias. When they move to get in my face, it gets a little awkward, but I just turn and then back up until he’s in front of me again and the eye is behind me.

I haven’t tried the LOS approach. I’ll give that a go.

Then you didn’t avoid all mechanics. If you’ve played this game for a long time, eyeballs linking a beam to you has been present in at least 1 more boss through WoW’s history (See: Inquisitor Tormentorums: Tormenting Orb: Inquisitive Stare). I’m sure there’s another one but can’t think of it off the top of my head. The second I got in there, without any prior vision experience, I figured out the ability. On top of that, it makes a noise and says -X sanity. If that continuously happens, you should probably try to be figuring out why, not complaining that it’s not a giant arrow on your screen saying “this mob is draining your sanity!”, which ironically, is kind of what happens since the beam comes from the eye.
