Before I played WoW I played a game called “EverQuest.” I played dark races in that game (mostly). Ogre, Troll, Dark Elf, etc. The Horde was the closest to the races I liked.
Tauren.

Tauren.
I mained Orc in Warcraft 3.
One side is a family that include many races even describe often as monster, very cool.
The other a mess of politics and races that don’t really want to work together half the time.
hmmm
Also playing human in a fantasy game :omegalul:
Oh yeah this is another reason. The “holy trinity” of humans, dwarves and elves is kind of boring to me. Dwarves by themselves is fine but you gotta put up with the other boring races.
Undead. I loved the undead in Warcraft 3 so my first character was an undead warlock. Most of my early characters were undead. I did play a bit of both sides early on in classic. I liked gnomes and night elves. But was always mostly Horde and as time went on I played Alliance alts less and less. By the time BC came out I only had Alliance alts for transferring gold and items though the AH. And I might goof around on one for a bit from time to time.
At this point, I keep bumping up against the character cap and of those I only have two 120 Alliance, and I haven’t played either in, couple months, I think.
TL;DR, I liked Horde better.
I do this too! Each character has a personality, mounts they like, and a backstory, though I never really RP.
If I’m feeling moody I’ll log on to my DK, for example, all dead mounts and death and gloom. If I’m feeling happy-silly it’s my panda or vulpera.
*Not to get off topic, Horde races are better/more fun to do this with. There’s more to them.
I played a goblin for a long time but then I started learning what Warcraft was about then I immediately switched to the good side
I like playing both sides but lately I been playing more on the Horde side. I like playing Horde because its has some really diverse band of characters and Lore. (I know a lot of the Lore is retconned.) I like playing the opposite of how I am in real life. I’m more of a gentle soul but on the game I can be a ruthless Forsaken or a cold hearted Nightborne Death Knight.
I do have plenty of Alliance toons I started playing Horde back when BC just started up and enjoy the Horde.
I main horde because 10 years ago, after Vanilla, John Staats wow developer said that Blizz grossly favors horde.
Only Metzen defended Alliance and he is long gone, and a majority played Alliance in Vanilla, until the over powered horde racials like 20% troll haste and others throughout the last 10 years caused all top alliance guilds to go horde to remain competitive in raiding.
Now, all blizz devs, including Ion, main horde, openly mock the alliance, have statues of orcs outside the main entrance at headquarters, play music at blizzcon that praises horde and tells alliance players to f___ off and to kill themselves…
Why would someone not play horde?
Oh wait, I play alliance, for some unknown reason.
I never cared much for lore. I started on Alliance. Then when I tried Horde shortly after, I noticed the the players on Horde side seemed to be older. When I played Alliance, I noticed that there were a lot of kids there. Now those kids on Alliance have grown into adults, so that’s not that much of an issue anymore. But I think that new kids will often pick the Alliance because they appear to be the good guys, and the races are more “familiar.”
Horde has Orcs. Alliance doesn’t.
I was an edgy kid and having red race of misfits fit me perfectly. And with years pass horde just always seemed to be more intersting than good-two-shoes 4 types of human faction
Hey pal, you can cover my guard shift this weekend?
I had some zugging to do but I guess I can reschedule that to next month.
From Legion through 8.3 I was spending 75% of my time with Horde characters - what attracted me to them?
Tauren and Orcs are DOPE. Also Arcane Torrent was insane not to have.
My friend mostly plays Horde. That’s all.
Aesthetics. That’s about it.
I started off as Alliance during BC & Wrath, then changed. I just got sick of how “nice” and “righteous” everything on the Alliance was. To me it didn’t reflect how things would actually be if the WoW universe was real and I found it fairly nauseating. The Horde seemed more like a legit, actual thing that would happen if WoW were RL.
Besides, there is nothing cooler looking that a Darkspear Troll with a large mohawk.
I considered my self a “Horde player” during Vanilla, and it was because I loved the scrappy underdog vibe that they had carried over from WC3. Thrall’s Horde were legitimately “good guys” that were looking for a place to call home.
The Forsaken being added was something that I didn’t necessarily like, but I thought that the Horde was going to file down their rough edges. Instead they just worse over time, and the rest of the Horde hasn’t fared much better. I’d say that as a whole group, the Horde lost that WC3 vibe by the end of Wrath. RIP.
I tried both when the game first came out. Alliance felt too “Disney” to me, if that makes sense.
Playing Horde felt like going to a BBQ at an old friend’s house while playing Alliance felt like going to McDonald’s.
I’ve always liked Halloween-themed things, so being able to play a skeleton (Forsaken) was a ton of fun.
