Honestly, it's pointless to advocate for queueing with other players in the age of followers

what is that supposed to mean?

If they would give us Follower Dungeons for everything, with slightly lower gear, and allow me to be a Loot-Master to decide which alt gets what, I would LOVE to tank a Follower dungeon with an AI healer and 3 of my DPS alts. Might actually get me to level more DPS.

This would take some computer programming on the part of the developers but it wouldn’t be all that difficult. You adjust the followers level and gear to the player’s level and gear. That would be simple, it’s already done when scaling mobs and bosses.

Then they could collect stats on what the player was doing and adjust the followers to do things at the same speed, at the same rate. This is similar to what Brann is doing. And I disagree about Brann being a liability, I have him in healer mode and his red bottles and other healing helps me a lot.

Thats the irrelevant part.

Ok.

So they play perfect, just slower?

You have a table that has various actions and points given for how well certain actions are done. They are adjusted dynamically as the player plays. You keep adding them up to come up with a running score.

Then you adjust the followers based on the points generated by the player’s actions.

This has to be about the same way that balancing is done in the game. It may not be programming 101 but writing table driven programs is no further along than Programming 201.

Now add modern AI programming and there are all sorts of possibilities on how bots could play and adjust themselves to the player’s ability.

My favorite part of the forums is when you have all the people who post like, just the worst ideas you’ve ever heard of, and then naturally the ideas face criticism, and then the people are like, “you’re just against any ideas that improve the game” as if their idea was any good in the first place.

They can’t type mean messages in chat.

There’s one major issue when it comes to adding followers/NPCs to harder content, and that’s balance.

One option is that the AI plays perfectly and it reduces the chances of failure because only one person out dungeon group or raid may have a chance at failing. Not to mention you might not even get targeted for mechanics, unless it makes sure to target you with every single mechanic and people would complain about that.

The other option is that the AI can fail and then people would complain about how the AI is holding them back and causing them to wipe.

Neither of these situations is great.

That was one of the longest tea-party posts I’ve read on these forums…

This can happen in pugs as well. How is a follower dungeon worse off? Also, if you saw this happen you could make adjustments.

So you want the chance to fail without any input from you?

How would there be no input from the player? Players get killed in dungeons and raids all the time. When that happens you learn from your mistakes, make corrections and try again.

So it wouldn’t simulate a real environment.

And it would be a carry?

First of all, nothing about WoW is real. The entire thing is virtual.

  • If you and the followers died in a dungeon because you didn’t have the right member with the right power you would line up at the beginning and try again just like you do in a follower dungeon or a pug and see if there was a way around the problem.
  • If you were unable to find a way to finish because you didn’t have the right configuration in a group you would have to reorganize your follower group.
  • If you do have the right power then it’s just as likely you would be carrying a follower as there is that the follower would be carrying you, just like in a pug.

If it’s to function like a pug, you’ll be wiping without any input from you. Like tank failing to dodge something.

If a tank fails to dodge something, that doesn’t mean you are not getting any input from the tank, it just means it took a hit.

You are not controlling the tank.

The tank is NPC remember?

They just do stuffs.

With my suggestion the player would be providing input, doing damage, just like any player in a pug. Of course some times you get killed, have to go back to the beginning and try again. In a follower dungeon if you get killed everyone goes back to the beginning, they don’t continue and carry you.

negative

the more people present, the less an individual means.

a raid of bit would carry an individual. it physically can’t happen any other way

you can’t provide input for the bots. you don’t have that option
