Yeah as someone with a brain in the group said, it punishes rather than rewards. The same with Resto Shaman mastery with the exception that their mastery is at least useful all the time anyway without doing anything.
no it isnt, what are you even thinking? terrible stat for 5mans…
Healer stat weights always ranks it the highest. People normally don’t go for mastery in 5 man’s because you don’t get dps out of it.
This is how I feel about it too. I’d rather play a ret if I want to be in the thick of things.
Was the previous mastery pretty good? I didn’t play holy then. Maybe make aura of mercy be the mastery instead, since they are getting rid of it?
Previous mastery put a damage shield as a % of healing done even in over heals and seemed to stack infinately but didnt synergize with beacon.
Our old mastery was illuminated healing. Which applied a shield up to 33 percent of our max health, on any targets we healed. Each heal applied a different percent of the healing done, into a shield.
It was good, too good, which is why it was changed. Unfortunately it could have been changed more simply to only apply to healing done and exclude overhealing and that would have been better than proximity based mastery imo.
I don’t particularly like holy paladin mastery, but it’s not the worse offender.
I think mistweaver’s mastery is the worst offender for healer mastery because for some of their healing abilities it does absolutely nothing and it’s not even a % increase to the heal spells it affects. It’s a static value, whereas all the other healers have a % increase usually determined by some criteria (proximity, # HoTs on target, etc).
Holy priest, is probably the most broken because it doesn’t even do what it says ('all direct healing leaves a HoT blahblahblah), but even holy nova, an aoe heal not directed at anyone, is still a ‘direct heal’ and provides it.
I hate it. It’s the one thing making me second guess playing pala in SL.
I want it to be like the old master, just make it scale poorly. Just anything that doesn’t make you sit in the f**kn open where you can get CC’d
I think blizzard needs to look at mastery as a whole. Haste makes you faster, crit makes you hit bigger sometimes, what is the core idea of mastery?
Maybe it should make you feel like more of your class.
Also, if they design the game around healers needing to dps mastery should give us more damage.
Illuminated healing made you feel more like a paladin. The light was literally protecting you from damage by absorbing it.
Hate it.
Proximity/melee healer is annoying for me.
At least give the option to opt out of this playstyle.
I wish it provided a Holy DMG bonus to it at least as well for a little extra flavor. Then they could balance rule of law and make it a passive that removes the dmg bonus in favour of increasing the range of the healing bonus.
That’s just as bad. Proximity mastery is dumb and boring.
yes, i enjoy my mastery.
let me go walk right next to my teammate to get the most out of…
and im stuck in 10 years of cc.
and i died.
yes i enjoy this mastery.
Agree with this so much. Mastery should be an improvement that your spec gets based on what “mastering” that’s spec would create.
Seems kind of odd nobody has mentioned it in the alpha paladin thread yet that I noticed. The only mention of holy’s mastery I see is someone suggesting making rule of law baseline since it goes along with the mastery, but I think a lot/most people would just like to see them both removed.
I guess there’s hardly any healer related posts in the alpha forum in general though.
I hate our mastery. It should be reverted back to a percent of it makes a shield.
I like the mastery it rewards spell weaving and movement on gcd it also let you get nasty bonus heals out a simple passive.
In 5 mans deals great heals without hindering alot ur damage as it comes from glimmer and other talents cs/consecration.
I played holy on wod legion and bfa and while wod mastery was stupid easy to use and broken new mastery it’s more challenging if you want easy to use to holy priest paladin have pros and cons to deal with.
Like 2nd best dps as healer, broken utility 2 inmunes damage transfers free damage and I mean 0 coat crusader strike and consecration in built dps with or without glimmer and beacon for tank safety net.
So yeah all those pros and only 1 lil con that can be turned into a con with class and encounter knowlege remember the question was from a “casual casual” and I’m talking about +15s /heroic/myth raiding perspective.
This si similar on why hunters are easy and firemages are hard, not many play the firemages correctly and alot play holy pallys as regular casters, the wrong way.
“Wait there is no wrong way to play wow!”
correct, but there is a more efficient way to do so reason why top raiders play with glimmer of light instead of holy light/flash of light and if you see high parses people(I said high not even world first or top 500 of the world) this pallys have less than 20 flash of lights per mythic encounter and 1-3 holy lights most 0 as it’s an dps and hps loss.
I’m just staying that those who don’t like the playstyle are ok it’s their respectable and well appreciated opinion but that is not the opinion of pallys that play for big results and if there looking for top numbers on a “long range caster healer playstyle” there druids and priest for that purpose.
Lastly I feel the hybrid option is totally viable if you commit for the build and aimming realistically it’s just 1-3k hps loss and plot twist the hybrid which includes avenging crusade and double beacon/ devine purpose(depending on the encounter raid/dung) stacks crit and mastery as avenger activates when using cs/judgement and therefore will be close to stuff and will smart heal your group.
I’m just a paladin that plays all specs on decent gameground but saying our mastery is complete garbage it’s just ignorant, hard to understand and play around? Maybe.
