This I agree with, 9 9
We need BigWillie in here to drop some Paladin knowledge.
He’s the best Paladin NA.
Do you like being a man in a dress that spams flash of light? If not, dont play paladin.
If only there were more players like you out there that cared about faction, bravo to you sir.
I’m a mage that rolled a paladin alt to try something new and give back and heal raids.
I am finding it very enjoyable, the paladin class is awesome, a true support class.
One of my fave things about pally is the bop ability, you get a lot of /w from players when you get a good bop trigger finger and can use it to save your raid and players.
Paladin is the way.
Im deep ret all the way down to repentence.
No doubt heal spec is the strongest at 60 but for leveling ret is pbbly best. 2H ret tanking is a thing with Righteous Fury, Ret aura and Concecration.
Kargoz has a 1 to 60 paladin leveling workshop pretty much that goes for several hrs on different ways to level. U can agree or disgagree with some proposals but hes new to paladin and is really jacked up about it lol great if ur a paladin enthusiast. Im leveling my 2nd paladin now, my dwarfadin and he will go eventually holy prot but during leveling i will pbbly go holy ret this time.
Pally is a really good PvE class for sure, when improved BoP is coupled with an arcane power mage in dungeons you can pull extra packs every 3 mins and delete them. HPally tank + Pally heals and two mages alternating BoPs + AP are the fastest clears I have ever been in.
Yeeaah, I don’t get it. Clothadin kinda defeats the purpose of being a paladin. Take the plate away, you do away with the damage mitigation. Paladin have zero aggro drop (fade, etc, bubble is not a true aggro drop) so I don’t get why you’d want that. Roll a priest imo. Yeah, I know, plate itemized appropriately is ridiculous (not until BC did we get decent int plate, I raided Kara in full pvp gear) but clothadin is just soo…well, you get the idea.
unless your heal set is pre raid BIS, no you can’t spec ret and heal pug scholo, strat, and LBRS.
If you manage to make it through, its because everyone else is geared and specced correctly.
I dont want to watch you drink after every pull either.
Yes.
Weapon progression, and using the right seals. Really just follow this guide tailored specifically to paladin leveling:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/18H0AWJMvQSIrFdZMTRYcYZcWBsjCPZmy9eHygEWMsKU/edit?usp=sharing
You can heal up to 60 including brd with ret, just have to keep a holy set and make sure to drink all the time since your mana pool aint too great.
I healed all the way up to 60 including scholo/strat as ret. To be safe you can respec around 55 for full brd runs for xp
also use blessing of wisdom while leveling not might, you can judge more often and will have more mana for healing back up after fights, then just move 1 mob to 1 mob, or around 40 respec to holy/prot for consecration and aoe farming
did you notice the part where he wrote “pre 60” dungeons?
I wear plate armor punk!
Some notes:
-Yes, you can pretty easily level as Ret and still heal. By the time you need to put talents into healing, you’re about done with the Ret tree anyway. You can also level into Holy with Ret secondary, though I found that I tended to start to have trouble soloing things around the 50s doing that.
-Get a separate healing set. Cloth/Leather “of Healing” greens are usually cheap and available on the AH. +Int is also good (for mana, and crit). Spirit is kinda meh though.
-For Ret leveling, your weapon is a huge deal. Get the Paladin level 20 quest done ASAP, as it gives you a great blue 2H mace that will last you easily until 30ish. Focus on the damage done, less so than the stats.
-Which Seal (Righteousness or Command) depends on the speed of your weapon. Anything with a swing time of 3.5 or higher, use Command, anything faster should use Righteousness. You can judge Crusader at the start of the fight as well, and then use your damage seal for judge/buff afterwards.
Most of the rest should be pretty self-explanatory.
I love playing Paladin. Paladin is a total team player. They are not a great solo class. Make sure you love working in groups. In a group, Paladins are fantastic. Everyone loves having you in the group.
I would play Ret to level to 60. Make sure to invest in some good slow 2 handed weapons. If you want to heal as Ret, keep a caster outfit for running dungeons.
At 60 I would go Holy in most cases, Paladins make great healers.
Know your blessings, auras and seals and use them wisely. Knowing what aura, blessing and seal to use in each scenario is an art and if you do it well your group will notice and thank you for it.
Yes you will spam flash of light most of the time while healing. But knowing when to use spells like Divine Intervention, Holy Shock, Divine Favor or Blessing of Protection can really make or break many fights.
Breakpoint is 3.20 or faster, not 3.50. It also depends more on the weapon damage itself more than speed. For example, you’ll get more out of using SoC on truesilver champion than SoR, just because its weapon damage is very good for the level.
Judging crusader is also a waste of mana on almost everything while leveling. Better to judge wisdom, or no debuff at all. The reason why is because the SP coefficiencts of SoC and SoR are so low that, at most, you’ll notice 1 or 2 points of damage increase out of every few SoR or SoC procs. It’s better to ignore the ability entirely, and put points into parry instead of imp sotc, because parry haste will net quicker kill times than judging crusader.
Also a note of auras should be made. Ret aura is incredibly good for leveling; sanc aura only out-paces it at higher gear levels.
I want to add just one thing about healing in dungeons, aside from the gear which has been covered. You will want a completely different setup either on your action bar or via addons.
You need the ability to select party members (including pets) and cast the appropriate spells -or- some sort of click-to-cast and a party frame / raid frame that gives you the information you need.
If you go the addon route, you may want to group with a friend / friends to help get it all set up so you’re not scrambling when you get to a dungeon group.
Probably. Many folks do it. You won’t be as mana-efficient, but that’s okay. Chances are, your tank isn’t tank spec’d, either.
I’ve found paladins to be far more engaging than folks let on. Your attack rotation isn’t much of a rotation most of the time. It’s the other “utility” things that come into play. Get used to using all those buttons. They are what really set a paladin apart.
- Seal of Justice - use this whenever fighting mobs that run away at low health. It’s amazing
- Bubbles - Divine Protection and Divine Shield are for you, only. Blessing of Protection can be cast on any friendly, or yourself. Use them wisely
- Blessing of Wisdom > other blessings whenever you’re concerned about reducing your down time
- Bandage to save Mana between pulls (or when you bubble!)
- Lay on Hands has a super long cooldown. Regardless, use it!
- Learn how to use your “cleansing” abilities, and use them wisely. You can clear out Frost Nova (self and friendly) and Sheep (friendly only!)
- Blessing of Freedom is very powerful
On gear:
- I prefer to stick to mail before 40 and plate after 40. Being able to take a hit is another major differential between you and druids/priests
- No stat is a bad stat for paladins while leveling. My preference is stam > str > int = ago = spi
- If this is an alt and you have money, buy BoEs to keep your gear current. Especially your weapon!
Enjoy the most fun class in all of WoW!
You can off spec heal any 5 man without mana problems so long as you keep a healpower set, especially so for pally
I’ll be the weird one. I enjoy tanking and healing. I enjoy leveling through doing dungeons. My preferred way to level a paladin is to first get consecration (+spiritual focus), and then go down the prot tree. Picking up tanking talents really helps you as a tank.
Healing leveling dungeons just requires some +int and +healing gear. Look on the AH for random bargains on +healing greens (any armor class). Carry some Mana pots for when things go wrong.
After you get Holy Shield then go back to the holy tree to boost your healing.
Just the tip.
