Higher latency with Frontier in Cali (again)

That are hops that have some ddos mitigation applied, so it’s tough to tell what they mean.

Normally, my home ms is 4, and my world ms is 9. Lately, my home and world MS have both been in the high 40s, (47-49) typically. I notice lag issues when I do certain abilities like chi torpedo where it either takes a second to activate, or it lasts longer than It should. These issues normally only occur in the past for me when lag was a problem. Also, my loading screens have been a lot longer. They used to be pretty fast, now they can last over 10 seconds.

I can’t help but say my god I’d be so happy with 40 ms constantly 4 is just crazy haha

I know, just complaining about the MS in the 40s, made me feel bad… But my main concern is that the game isn’t feeling fluid… Like delays in ability activation, and just an overall feeling like something is off.

I’m having the same exact issue as Daisy. I was getting ~10 ms on servers hosted in Los Angeles and ~50 ms on servers hosted in Chicago just a week ago, but am now getting ~50 ms on both Los Angeles and Chicago servers. They literally have the same exact latency, despite some being hosted ~20 minutes from me and others being hosted halfway across the country. I live in SoCal and also have Frontier as my ISP.

Hi there friends,

We do see this 40 MS spike from this provider on many connections in that area. Please, if you have Frontier Communications and are in California, please add your WinMTR. If you have friends in the area with the same problem, we ask you have them add the report as well.

This type of data helps us work on the issue, or if needed, reach out to the ISP. Thanks for the understanding, and I hope we have news for you soon!

Thanks very much, Nathardrick! Also, thank you to Zungar and Tratt for reaching out as well.

Just to clarify, I am seeing ~50 ms latency across all servers, whether they are hosted in Los Angeles or Chicago. Before, I had ~10 ms latency on Los Angeles-hosted servers and ~50 ms latency on Chicago-hosted servers, which made sense considering I live about 20 minutes or so from Los Angeles. It’s strange how the Los Angeles-hosted servers went up 40 ms but the Chicago-hosted servers remained the same.

I also tested Battlefield V out, and the ping is the same as its always been. There is still a noticeable increase when I go from a West server to a East server as well, compared to the latency being the exact same regardless of server on World of Warcraft.

Streaming, internet browsing, and downloads are still working normally as well. I posted my WinMTR above. Thank you again! I just want my normally low latency back for the Classic WoW launch. :frowning:

Hi Nathardrick,

Any update on this issue? I was hoping this thread would gain more traction and we’d have additional people post their WinMTR results, but that sadly hasn’t been the case. Luckily, it sounds like you guys are aware of the problem though.

Hey all,

It looks like our engineers are looking into this issue. We do not have any sort of ETA for the fix, but hopefully it’s not far off. Keep in mind that these fixes often require a bit of time to provide since it does require multiple companies to coordinate routing changes.

Hope the info helps! We will post any updates on this matter here.

Thanks so much for the update, Kaldraydis!

My latency is back to 7ms so seems fixed until the next time.

I can confirm mine is back to normal as well! Getting ~11 ms on Los Angeles-hosted servers and ~50 ms on Chicago-hosted servers, just like it should be. Thanks so much, technical support team and engineers.

I confirm that for me the spell activation lag, and high latency is now gone. My ms is back to normal ~8 ms world. Thank you.

So, I thought all was well… It was good for me for a few hours , but now it’s worse… My world MS like 150-200, and I’m having lag spikes with dropped frames. However, now instead of my home MS being elevated, it remains low less than 10, usually like 8.

Not sure if this is a different issue, new WinMTR…

I think it may be a different issue. I just tested it out myself, playing 10 minutes each on both a Los Angeles-hosted server and a Chicago-hosted server. My latency is still normal and I noticed no lag spikes or dropped frames whatsoever - still getting my ~10 ms (Los Angeles) or ~50 ms (Chicago) for both home and world.

Hi there; I wanted to add my two bits as well… been having loot/spell cast lag that ends up disconnecting me since Thursday evening. Even doing all the error 319 suggestions did nothing to improve the play. No addons at all today…

Just ran a tracer and noticed a large latency in one of the IP’s, but I have no idea what to do next. Located near Vancouver, BC. Help? Game is annoyingly unplayable on a few different servers :frowning:

Sorry to hear you’re having issues, man. This thread was actually made for people in Southern California with Frontier Communications as their ISP. Sounds like you’re near Vancouver, so you probably want to create a separate thread.

A post was split to a new topic: Frontier high latency
