Exactly.
The two statues makes it clear that there were female druids and male priests long before the Third War. They may have been outliers, but they still existed.

I was not aware of that cenarion circle page, intriguing. That said it means they would have been extreme outliers, and not really part of regular nelf society, as far as the statuette pair while it does not mention a time-frame, it can only have referenced the change during the third war. Since as far as male priests go all sources say itās a post third war thing.

Traditionally night elf women served their people as warriors, hunters, and protectors. Many spellcasting vocations, on the other hand, were generally considered the realm of night elf men. Only since the devastating casualties of the Third War have these conventional gender roles been set aside. Because druids only recently opened their ranks to women, golden eyes remain somewhat more prevalent among night elf men than their female counterparts.

Once, all priests who served Elune were all night elf women. However, after the devastation of the Third War, traditional gender roles were discarded in favor of permitting night elves to choose the vocations they most desired. As a result, although a majority of Eluneās priests are still women, the order now welcomes men into its ranks.
Koda SteelClaw is the archdruid of the claw in Valāsharah, she is a Night Elf, she is an archdruid and she is always in bear form. When you meet her she mentions how she has been a druid for centuries, so pre-third war.
Itās extremely plausible. Given that Highborne leaving Azshara is why the lighter skin tones were added to the NE in Cata, since canonically the Highborne of Eldreāthalas left there to rejoin Night Elven society. Additionally thatās how the High Elves came into being. They defected from Azshara and left Kalimdor afterwords. It would seem there are a plethora of Highborne defectors. Could those defectors become druids? Certainly. But as I said, as of Cata the Highborne Night Elves have all rejoined Night Elven society. So thereās no lore break here.
Yeah, this is the quote.
Malfurion Stormrageā¦ A name I have not heard in centuries.
He was teacher to many of us. If he seeks my audience, I cannot refuse.
Unfortunately I donāt know if weāve seen any male Night Elf priests before the Third War.
There is one in Pandaria that is old enough to have an adult daughter, so probably pre-third war, but It seems he wasnāt a priest of the moon/elune, as he was obsessed with finding a fountain of youth or something.
Sorry for the late reply, havenāt been active on the forums. Although thank you! Iāve fully missed this quote when looking around.
Flaws which are pretty easy to acquire when you are an individual who is functionally immortal and part of either the then largest empire or, nowadays, in theory one of the strongest factions. Well, before the fire.
