High Ping on Oceanic

My ping between the US and Oceanic is normal 279, but in the past 24 hours it has gone between 1000 to 5000ms. I ran this test for over 30 minutes.

Get in line man, my Home MS is 30, my Game MS is 1931 right now… No one is talking on what is going on.

I’ve been having this same issue for the last two or so days. My home landline (through Centurylink) is pushing 1500 and higher ping, whereas I get normal 200-300 ping if I tether from my phone. This same thing happened roughly a month or so ago.

I can run a WinMTR when I get home later tonight.

Me again - but on a different character. Just ran a test for 5-ish minutes while on my Centurylink landline. Reported latency in-game ranged back and forth from as low as 1600 to as high as 14000. Here’s my WinMTR output:

Hey, I also use CenturyLink (fiber) and the past two or three days have been insanely unplayable. Like the others, my ping from the US is around 260-ish normally, which is fine, though I miss the days when it was 40ms to Los Angeles. Okay, I’ve seen spikes up to 14000ms, but the effect lasts minutes, where the character is locked in some activity or inactivity.

I’m playing right now, during the WinMTR session. Actually, apart from taking a few minutes to load a character, and some initial world ping over 12000ms, it settled down to around 360ms for a while. I was disconnected a few times as well.

Some further remarks. The lag increases exponentially in proximity of players from linked realms. A common choke point are flight masters. For example, arriving in Boralus, it can take a few minutes to dismount from the taxi, and a few more to mount up again. There’s almost always others there.

Out in the world, things are generally okay, even doing WQs, unless somebody else shows up. The bigger the number of cross-realm players, the more hosed it gets, until you are frozen. The only recourse is to close the WoW window. The trouble is, you don’t know if your toon was actually logged out. After logging back in, it takes a while before the character selection screen comes up. Selecting the character and entering the world takes a minute or two. Hopefully, you aren’t DOA, lol.

Was unable to raid last night with the guild due to high ping a night of raiding lost due to no answers yet. This morning still having ping ranging from normal 279ms to over 4000ms, with forced log outs. Ran WinMTR during time attempting to do world quest.

Guys, Blizz suggested trying a VPN, and I have. I went with Nord, and so far, everything is super smooth and fast! All I did was install their software, select Australia, and the rest was history.

Looks like 229ms home/world consistently. Excellent!

According to the in-game monitor, I’m at 244/244ms. Sweet! I have had ZERO lag issues. Far from it. It’s probably better than it ever was, but that’s subjective. I’m running WinMTR at the moment, but want to gain a significant sample.
