5800x isnt the gaming powerhouse in wow. Its bottom of the barrel almost. Wow is a CPU game it cares about CPU cache and cache speed. Its why in every CPU based game the 5900x out performs it every time due to its game cache. The 5800x 3D is what I was talking about. That one is the wow powerhouse chip. See the video in my post above

But in non CPU based games yes the regular 5800x is a powerhouse

Alright, so - what I ended up doing was changing to DX11 down from 12.

I think it’s hard capped at 60 FPS but… It’s buttery smooth now?

Changing the FPS limiter or turning it off didn’t make a difference.

Just weird - all of the settings are exactly the same as before I packed the PC, so nothing should have changed. I am sure I will eventually find out but for now if I have to play in DX11 but it’s smooth FPS, then I am okay with it - WoW isn’t the only title I play anyways.

Did you check to see if the DVR function is running in the background? I had issues with the DVR setting set to auto record and it lowered my FPS.

Also, check to make sure that the graphics are is set for quality maybe? I know for my nvidia graphics card I can set it to performance, balance, or quality.

That’s what happened to me and apparently a lot of others in legion, so your pc must have been somewhat decent to start

I need a new computer… oh my works fine but its 6yrs old.

I need a new one, yknow?

If you’re running 1080p, 6 year old PCs are fine in most cases.

But I am running three 3440x1440p monitors with 120 gsync. The 1080ti was running it, but about 60-70 FPS sometimes much lower depending on the title.

The Upgrade to the 5600x/6800xt hits my 120 refresh on everything… Except WoW. shrug

It just depends on your quality expectations and frame expectations and monitor choice.

My friend has AMD and many of his steam games crash and other issues sometimes. I use Nividia and have 0 problems on those same games…yeah AMD is not for gaming.

Not even so sure how statements like these are ever formed. Brand bias between the two is interesting when there’ so many sources to go to that shows quite the opposite of your statement.

I’ve been building for half my lifetime. Any issues I’ve had with AMD, I’ve had equally with Nvidia.

Nvidia software and drivers are more intuitive.
NVidia has historically been the best performing and AMD the best bang for your buck and that was typically your tradeoff between the two.

But AMD CPUs have been giving Nvidia a run for their money and winning awards for performance. The GPU this generation are astounding - the 6800xt that I have is on par with the 3080.

Well that says a lot. Nvidia is basically quality, AMD is basically dollar store quantity. Got it. I’ve never had issues with Nvidia, its been perfect for gaming.

When talking to people I work with, I typically only get comments like that from first time builders who think they know everything, or very young people - who think they know everything.

Your statement just isn’t true.

Use your sources to back your claim.

Does AMD still heat higher than nvidia that was the reason I switched.

Depends on the CPU and your cooling situation.

GPU, depends entirely on the manufacturer’s heatsink design.

The 1080ti I had before had a triple fan just like the 6800xt with equally thick heatsinks.

But the 6800xt has a blow through design - my AMD GPU is a little bit cooler than my Nvidia card. CPU, I see no noticeable change.

It’s not hard capped I am on DirectX 12. Maybe your computer does not have DirectX 12 installed correctly also check if you need a graphics update

I am also on Nvidia graphics card though. I don’t know enough about amd’s drivers to help you there. I have to use Nvidia because I need the Cuda cores for some of my video editing

As a side note check your monitor refresh rate. I know this is a simple thing and you sound like you know what you’re doing however Sometimes Mines 165hz however I’ve installed things or mistakenly set it to 60 hz before

You CPU is Midrange and WOW uses an older engine that is more CPU dependant that newer engines. Also, I know I am older, but 100-120 FPS is not bad at all, WOW is not an FPS, so you don’t really need higher than 60 FPS even.

AMD CPU
AMD GPU
“high end pc”
No, just no.

wow is quickly going into the realm where you can’t play it on a toaster powered by a conductive potato anymore.

Thank Zovaal

Nothing wrong with and topkek, he made the right choice by not going with a furnace

OP this is going to be a bit silly and is not an AMD exclusive thing for WoW, but try disabling SMT for me and running the game, just humour me.

On an 8700k setup it was worth an extra 14 FPS in raids

On my 5950x it was worth another 18 FPS in raids

I suspect it’s due to WoW hopping to hyperthreaded cores and then shenanigans is at play due to scheduling
