I would like to add that you still DO need to play through the race’s storyline to completion. The reputation requirement is waived on prepatch though.
Welcome to Warcraft!
- Get to 120
- Finish the War Campaign, this will unlock Dark Iron Dwarves once SL is released.
- Finish all the quests in all three BFA Alliance zones (Drustvar, Stormsong, Tiragarde), this will unlock Kul Tirans once SL is released.
- Finish all the quests in Argus (Legion zone) this will unlock Void Elves and Lightforged Draenei once SL is released.
- Finish the main questline in Mechagon (the final quest sends you into the dungeon to kill King Mechagon), this will unlock Diapergnomes once SL is released.
I’m on the same boat, but I’m returning after a long break. Doing the quests for allied races is s good idea, but don’t grind the rep - it won’t be required soon
Thanks.
How do i get to Najatar? It seems that this area, and the allied races stories are ALL TIED to the mainline quests being completed.
Am I right? Am I going to have to finish massive content to unlock the allied races stories?
You will still need to do the quests to unlock allied races in shadowlands (no exalted rep requirement then though). And yes nazjatar and the later cloak quest (don’t worry about it but it will be a useful item for a bit into the next exp).
If all of that is too much just spend your time leveling classes to 120 (yes even before the leveling revamp in pre-patch). Always better to have things done earlier so you can jump into content on whatever class catches your eye at the start of the expansion, without having to waste time leveling it while shadowlands content is live. During pre-patch just do the daily stuff in icecrown, and other fun things that people say they like (and are still in the game).
Actually this is pretty good advice for two particular cases: DH and DK, they still start with a huge level advantage compared to SL so you (OP) should at least finish their respective starting zones. Monks are also a special case, they don’t have level advantage but get they a huge exp buff every 10 levels which is getting removed in SL.

You can check out this article too, although it may include concepts you’re not familiar with yet.
Do not buy upgraded flying speed, they are removing a tier so save your gold.
It’s probably been mentioned above, but Artisan flying (280%) is going away. If you buy it, you’ll stay at 280%, until you buy Master flying (310%).
But if you upgrade now, you’ll be paying 5k gold (less faction discounts) twice.
If you do it in SL (pre-patch?), you’ll only pay once to go from 150% to 310%.
So if you can stand to putter along at 150% for a few more weeks, you’ll save a bundle of gold.
And I’m not sure how freely gold will flow in SL.
Watch Global history of wow This will help give you an idea of the story going into Shadowlands. Link goes to Work safe video on youtube.
Thank you, this link to the global history was very very helpful!
Empty your bags of all the previous expansion materials or item you may have.
Save what you want for later in your bank, sell the rest. It’s good to get your bags managed for new expansion stuff.
BATTLE PETS
All day!
To start with inmho, get some large bags you’re going to need it.
Clear you’re quest logs as much as you can.
Clear you’re bank as much as well .
And yes, get to 120 some you would have a fresh start.
They are removing xp from heirlooms too in shadowlands…
I leveled an alt to max level doing this. Its probably even easier with warmode implemented. Since you dont have to worry about being pvped. I just grinding in Deadwind pass.
They’re not automatically unlocked. The rep requirements are just removed. The story requirements still exist.
Thats neat. I loved unlocking the races. I hated the grind though.
Get all the deep sea bags you need now, they’re gonna be five or ten times more expensive in SL with all the people returning and leveling up.
-
Don’t bother they will be unlocked in shadowlands, I don’t know if you will still need the achievement.
-
Just wait for the new expansion.
-
You want the highest skill, you won’t be able to fly anyway since flying requires pathfinder.
-
Heirlooms are a waste of money. You should probably do dungeons with your friends.
-
Level to 120 and take this time to learn the interface, how different mechanics works, your class etc.
I hope you have fun
