Hey tanks, can I say something please?

New tanks don’t know that a lot of classes have aoes they need to stay in. Just comes with experience. Let them know in a polite way and they should respond decently… Should

Scrub melee dps alert.

Who can even see all of your ground effects with all the visual AoE junk everybody’s throwing down these days?

I only move them marginally if there’s some fire or acid under the boss in order to give melee deeps the safe floor space in order to not take massive damage as they tunnel the boss. I only move a few steps though so you’re still in hit box range.

The one exception is at the pull if there’s adds. For some reason adds always try to bee line the healer or a ranged so I have to hop around some to lay a taunt and moon dot and to try to entice the adds to come to me at the boss.

But ill promise to not move around if you melee promise to do the fight mechanics and not just face roll the keys tunnel vision style

I feel you, happened to me too sometimes, You die to the beam or the shatters. Tarvold in SD is other boss where tanks frequently left very small room to move. If you get castigate you are in a bad position, as if this boss wasnt hard enough.

Can image how will be this week, with quaking on those narow corridors?

Scrub DPS for not being a mind reader to the tank?

I think they just want us to feel gear progression more than we did before, so rather than alter the difficulty of dungeons every 6 months to adjust for a new tier, hopefully we will see less tuning passes and each patch M+ will become easier. Let’s see what happens

Expect VDH tanks are basically required to kite as we don’t have the same active mitigation as other tanks do. We have rather large windows where we have no active mitigation and if we stand there tanking hits we will die.

If you must, but if I don’t like the words you type, I will leave.

Kiting constantly matters in M+

Dps loss from movement doesn’t matter in lower content

shrugs

We healers second this motion. That pretty pool of green or rainwater on the floor? yeah, we put it there predictively so that it would land on you, Mister Tank.

We totally understand kiting. We totally understand necessary movement, especially if we’re in a key and the affixes require it.

But why, Why, WHY, Mister Tank? WHY did you keep scooting until you were just outside of that glorious circle of safety we made for you, only to stand at the edge of it? WHY?

Edited to add:

Listen…also as a healer…if I run out of Diet Coke during the run, people gon’ die. Serious business.

Yeah, I started as melee dps then became full-time tank I am fully aware of courtesy. Certain things, like totems, are hard to notice in the heat of things, but I always stay put until I HAVE to drag the boss WAY OUT of AOE so dps can dps. On Halls of Atonement I try to leave room for the melee when the stone boss decides to spin. Same for Spires of Ascension, I leave room for dps. I actually teach new players to “dps behind the target unless its a dragon” as safest option.

I’m the tank, don’t stand next to me, bad idea. lol
I also let healers mana before boss.

When I tank I usually spin the mob so their back is to the dps and heals, rogues can backstab away and not be constantly trying to maneuver

it is for the rogues, so yer entirely wrong.

Meanwhile I’m leveling my VDH and consistently landing in groups that yell at me to go/pull faster without letting packs die first. And I’m a pretty brave puller, like, compared to leveling tanks at least lol. Like I’ll group up a couple of packs at once to aoe down, I’m not taking two mobs at a time or anything. But jeez some of these people in RDF literally do not want me to stand still for more than a second or else they start going ahead and pulling on their own. I’ve never healed for groups that would leave a tank behind to finish 4+ mobs at 15% health while they went to find another pack but my tank seemingly gets nothing else lol.

Last night, first time ever in my history of playing this game, I was standing around watching a mage die because he would not stop going ahead of me to pull packs I wanted to skip. Or trying to skip packs and then butt-pulling multiple adds on top of the pack he couldn’t even successfully skip in the first place. I’m usually pretty quick to save people from their own stupidity but suddenly … I’m fed up.

I do try to keep things in the aoes though. And druids, I see your flowers and I respect them. I’ll do what I can to stay within them, ground crud allowing.

*edit to fix a typo

I see this ALOT on my dps… and it infuriates me as a tank main, hahaha

keep in mind it might not be intentional… blizzard removed all ground effects after the initial cast so we can’t actually SEE where your DND is.

I am add, lol so I am constantly doing the “pvp shuffle” strafing left and right quickly in a tight little area, I will never move the mob enough to cleave you melee, but they will dance a little bit, youll be fine… lol

also… sometimes mobs need to be kited… can’t face tank everything haha

but I hear you, and understand

Really? I swear I see other dks, but maybe its the initial cast.

ya they changed it just recently, cause people were complaining they couldn’t differentiate between their aoe and the bad aoe marks… and were dying to standing in bad… lolz

you can see it drop once cast, then it dissapears, the effect is still there but the visuals are gone…

If you’ve ever been in a group with 4 night fae, you’ll understand why, haha … eye cancer…

Given how common it is for people to think there was no reason to move a mob when they just didn’t understand the reason, I think it’s completely understandable that people also suspect that is what is going on with the OP even when he denies it.

It’s hard to tell who is really making a mistake without video. One fun one that seems to be even more common this expansion IMO is mobs trying to get behind you (is it still true that players can’t dodge or parry attacks that aren’t from their front 180 degrees?)

Most DPS aren’t going to pay any attention to that and may not even be aware of it as a mechanic, so when one guy shows up and says “You guys are doing it wrong but I’m not like all the other people who say that, honest”, of course people don’t just rush to believe him.

I was specifically thinking about the mobs in Sanguine Depths that use Echoing Thrust or the shade creatures that cast an un-interruptible spell before dropping their large AoE ground effects. These are mechanics a good tank will see telegraph and move them out of the way so DPS aren’t taking continuous damage. But when DPS have to focus a lot on their rotation and interruptible abilities, these are nuanced features that can be easily overlooked by their fast-paced demands.
