Heroic kel'thuzad

in sod on hc kt our raid lead wants to stack all 4 glacial spikes next to the boss and aoe then all down at the same time witch causes us to go splat. So on hc is ther a limit to how many you can destroy at once safely with healing cds.

Kinda yeah. On heroic and above, destroying a spike gives you a dot that stacks.

4 is doable, as is 5 but it requires multiple drs and healing CDs.

The rule of thumb is you want at least 1 mitigation, at least 1 throughput, and at least 1 miscellaneous (Darkness, Rally, Amz) for each 4 stack on heroic.

Depends on how many cooldowns you have at your disposal, more importantly damage reduction cooldowns. During our very first prog we had one spike stay in melee and the rest put off at the end of the room behind where the boss originally stands, we then blow up the single one in melee and let the others die by themselves and used our cds.

Nowadays people like to put them all in melee and pop them immediately but you will need healing cooldowns and personals ready for them or else people will drop especially because their is a meteor that occurs shortly after that needs to be soaked.

we do 2 at a time in heroic.

this is how we do it just use cds

You can stack and use cooldowns, or stagger 1-2 separately. We did 1 separate during first week progression, and some raid cooldowns with burning the rest later.

If you can do 6 at a time on mythic, you can do 4 at a time on heroic. The limit is your healing cooldowns. If you blow all your cooldowns on one set and then quickly phase him and get more spikes before your healers 3 min cooldowns are back, you’ll die. But a heroic 4 stack is probably doable with limited cooldowns aka something like spirit link + darkness + throughput on one set, then barrier + aura mastery on the next set

Just a reminder, the meteor comes in after the spikes. If you’re doing 4 at once, save a big cd for the meteor, or else all your hard work will be undone when it hits.

Meteor can be soaked by 2-3 warlocks with dark pact depending on the group size, druids in bear form also works. You don’t need healing CDs for it.

2 at a time is probably best unless you have absolute faith in your healers and group DCDs. I ran in one this weekend, we dropped 2 markers. 2 spikes to each marker, cleave down the 2 on the first marker, let the debuff fall off, kill the other 2. Since the fight up top isn’t a DPS check until the last phase, you can afford to take time and do it right instead of trying to burn the boss frantically.

You want to kill 2 and let the other 2 break naturally.

We do 2 at a time, park 2 spikes near KT and cleave it all down, park the remaining elsewhere away from the boss and just let them die in their own time. I can’t recall if 1 of the healers uses a CD during the breaking of the 2 spikes or not - I feel like the answer is no.

The wowhead guide recommends using cooldowns when the spikes are slain, but I don’t raid-heal so I don’t know if that’s always the case or if stronger healers can get the job done without them while the debuff is ticking down. It’s listed for Heroic as 22k initial frost damage and then another 2.7k per second for 10 seconds, so with 2 stacks of it I’d guess the healers are at least rotating cooldowns rather than blowing them all at once.

It’s more that it’s the only time the raid takes meaningful damage in the entire encounter, if you don’t use them on spikes then where else do they go?

Remember that on mythic you use everything you have to do them all at once, there’s no cds really assigned anywhere else but spikes.

On Mythic you blow all the spikes at once and every healer uses every single raid wide healing cd they have. It’s why you spend so much time sitting around on that fight with everyone afk waiting to push the boss at the exact time so your raid wide healing cds are back up for the next set of spikes.
