Hero Upgrade Track Suggestion

Hi, I think the current hero upgrade track needs some small tweaks.

For players who can obtain Myth track gear with regularity, the wide gap between the end of the hero track and the end of the myth track creates an impression that hero track gear is not worth investing in once you hit 4/6.

This is caused by Hero 5/6 and Myth 1/6 being the same ilvl. In the early part of the season it’s seen as a “mistake” to spend your capped gilded crests on maxing out hero track gear because you could potentially receive a myth track item in the vault for that slot and save those spent crests since you effectively get the ilvl of Hero 5/6 for “free” with Myth 1/6.

If you had spent said crests now you’re “behind” on gilded crests because of the cap. When the cap is removed the problem should go away but the psychology and so called “wrongness” of inefficient crest expenditure doesn’t change.

I suggest that 5/6 hero be changed to cost runed crests - increase it to 20 runed crests instead of the usual 15 to note the transition to myth gear ilvls if needed. Or double it if that’s more reasonable. I don’t know what the final cost should be but I know that it costing gilded crests is not right.

Extending the hero track to 7/7 would be nice too and extend the investment/value of hero gear. However, it’s not a hill I’ll die on.

If we can get this notion that it is ever wrong to upgrade a piece of gear out of the way I’d be very grateful.

Thank you for reading my post.

Agree that early progression for TWW S1 upgrading past 4/6 Heroic was seen as a waste, recommended against, and the wrong play. Which felt bad. A change to make going 5/6 Heroic not feel bad, or feel like a waste of gilded crests would be a welcomed change.

I’d argue that spending gilded crests on hero pieces is ALWAYS a poor decision, unless it’s a cantrip item, trinket, or sometimes a weapon.

Or we could just go back to dragonflight gear tracks where hero track was only six ilvl below myth track instead of 13.

Why was this change implemented? Literally no one enjoys it.

I would love to see the gap reduced but it’s seems quite intentional that it was widened so I don’t know how much traction we’d get asking for it to be shortened.

At the very least if we can get upgrade stuff sorted it would be a step in a more positive direction.
