Here's what classic plus is NOT:

  • An opportunity for Blizzard to have a do-over for retail.

Zero chance that the core gameplay / loop / aesthetic is changed.
Zero chance that Molten Core / BWL / ZG is removed.
Zero chance that ANY core vanilla system is overhauled.

Play SoD. That is what the game will be like. Thanks.

I would agree with your second point. Bliz probably will make use of those already created assets. As for your first and third points…I dont think there is a clear definition as to what people on the forum belive those are. Already with Anniversary they shown to be willing to make changes like dual spec.

To me i think it comes down to how much effort they are putting into C+. Throw a new raid in and call it C+, or charge a box fee and create something with new gameplay.

SOD was an acceptable vision for classic plus. Not perfect but could be worse.

so you’re saying scrap retail completely and make a NEW expansion based off era. interesting idea. i like it

This is probably the unfortunate truth.

It was an okay seasonal server, but if that’s genuinely the foundation they’re using for C+ (which Blizzard has hinted at), I’ll be very disappointed.

Somehow the community completely mutilated the original vision and suddenly wanted to throw all their slop into the mix too. What frustrates me is that the original Classic+ was a straightforward idea. Classic is already a winning model and all they really need to do is refine/balance classes a bit, flesh out the open world/finish uncompleted zones, tune raids/itemization, and add additional PvE/PvP content.

Obviously not a small order… but it keeps classic true to what it should be. I’m fully bracing for C+ to miss the mark for all sides and become more flavor of the month content that is amazing for a few months before the majority of the classic playerbase moves onto the next thing.

This was promoted 5 years ago before the TBC classic launch and was a popular idea, but ignorred by Blizzard.

Instead we got TBC and that is ok, the pre-nerf raids were actually fun. Poor anniversaey babies, struggling on post nerf easy mode.

stuff can always be worse

sayign ti cna be worse

doesnt say much

becuase thast all what blizzard has bene makign for many many many years

very seasonal and fomo stuff

You have to be realistic, modern Blizzard isnt the juggernaut it was 20 years ago. They wont make anything really cool anymore because of accessibility and balance. What was cool about early WOW was how much effort you needed to access content thru attunements and the difficulty of fielding 40 players to login regularly.

SOD is the best content modern Blizzard can do. In other words they will never release another Naxx that is finished by about 1% of players at the time.

I DO NOT expect good stuff at all

A real win would basically just be making blizzard presents turtle wow. I think that’s closer to what players where expecting or hoping for, rather than sod

I tend to agree with this take and think Classic+ (whatever the real name is) will be something closer to Season of Discovery or one of the other “Seasons” than a brand new game with all this stuff people want.

Vanilla WoW was really special and cannot be recreated by anyone not even the original developers.

I think one ingredient in the secret sauce is that there were several on the team who were pretty serious hardcore raiders in Everquest. We know they also played Dark Age of Camelot and got really into it.

Chris Metzen wasn’t a pacified old tree hugging softy with lame ideas, he was young and the story of the Warcraft universe had teeth and memorable characters. This was a real place he could describe to them in detail whenever they needed a push.

Bringing 25 Warriors to a speed running raid was never their intention. If you played actual Vanilla WoW and raided you know that Combat Rogues were better for almost the entire life of Vanilla. Sure R14 Warriors could pump, but they were rare, and only some of them wanted to raid. The living breathing game was changed patch-by-patch and no metas or BiS lists really existed even among the best players going at the time.

Whatever Classic+ is, I just hope it is a good game. It is unlikely to be exactly what anyone wanted and may not be at all what some people wanted.

This part, I disagree with. They were there and knew what made the other games good, that they were emulating with WoW. The problem is that none of the original devs work there.

at $15 a month …. 300,000 people ….. thats 4.5million a month. Box fee pshhhhhh they’ve more then made their money when 90% of the game would already be finished at release with the extra 10%. Thats only 1 month btw now figure the years.

I like to imagine Classic+ is if they didnt release TBC and dropped a content patch instead. That means new content but as minimal changes that would be normal for a new patch back then.

Feel free to disagree but none of the ex-WoW devs have been successful with anything outside Blizzard. The only Blizz-alum who has ever had success outside Blizzard is Ben Brode. You’re allowed to have a wrong opinion.

So tired of all these classic plus posts. It’ll get here when it get’s here. Jeez.

Totally. I’m so afraid you’re right. This is what I prepare for by asking for

  • more crossbows in-game!
  • Era servers for TBC
  • HC servers for TBC
  • the old UI back without bugs when chosen

I agree that paying extra for classic+ would be ridiculous if all they do is add content to Era.

I would however be happy to pay an expansion like cost if they give me something new. Having the same continents would be fine. But 0-60 with the same quests, recipes, gear, etc. No thanks. If that’s all it is, why not just add new dungeons and such to the existing era servers.
