Here is the LFG Addon in action! Much worse than you thought

any automation of game mechanics is bad, so i dont understand why addons that in a cignificant way can automate the social gameplay should be tolerated ?..

hopefully people who want the authentic experience wont use this addon therefore whoever does will be sitting afk for hours with the addon open waiting for it to auto fill their group forcing them to just uninstall it and actually look for one manually… or blizzard can just break it lol either works

Incorrect! In my Elvenwall example, I asked a friendly guild if they had any tanks available. The guild was friendly because we had run things together before. We knew each other.

If everyone (except me) is using the add-on, we are far less likely to have known each other. They would be grouping up via some add-on instead of building personal social networks.

You’ve changed your goalpost bud. First you were against this addon because it “removed the social aspect of grouping” and now you’re against “the possibility of automation”. Pick an argument and stick to it. Because we’ll be here until classic is dead before we’re done otherwise.

I’ve already written a detailed opinion on why it wouldn’t remove any social aspects of the game unless you’re one of those people who never talks to their party. So I’m not going to bother going over that.

But something being possible does not make it probable. The odds of someone getting struck by a piece of extra-solar space junk is astronomically low. Jumping at the shadows of possibility makes you a cat trying to catch the laser pointer.

And by 1.11 most of the community, character, and politics of a server had been set because players were forced to interact and value each other. If you start right out of the gate devaluing that interaction the servers are going to develop with the same feel retail has.

There is this magical thing called join a good guild. Problem solved. I won’t use this add-on as I won’t need it even if I need to do a pug instance

You don’t know what you are talking about, Meeting stones didn’t work in classic, it was in patch 2.0.1 it started to work as a LFG system and it was never AUTOMATED and you needed to head there to start summoning your group.
Just go and play Retail is better suited for you.

The problem is: You don’t understand why all these people are truly against it so let it be man, there is no point wasting time, if you don’t get the whole picture.

BFA has a lot of perks you should ignore classic.

I’m getting really tired of needing to cite this.

Patch 1.3

Meeting Stones are located outside of each dungeon to help players find a group to adventure with in the dungeon. The meeting stone will try to find you a viable five-person group by looking for a tank, a healer, and so on. As time passes and you are unable to find a group, the meeting stone will become less picky about who it groups you with.

Patch 1.5.
Innkeepers around the world now have a gossip option that lets you join a meeting stone directly from the innkeeper rather than going to the location of the meeting stone. Also, these innkeepers will now have background lore about each of the dungeons.

Levels requirements for meeting stones have been increased. The intent is that a group will not be grouped with party members that don’t really have a good chance of completing the dungeon.

Meeting stones have had their rules for grouping different classes of characters relaxed. This means groups who use meeting stones (or innkeepers) should have their groups formed much more quickly than was previously happening.

So all of those original social connections came from
“LFM BRD”
“Invite please, I can heal!”
“Oh, we already have a healer, but let’s talk for the next couple of hours while I continue to put this group together and run the dungeon!”
“Sure!”
proceeds to have a long conversation that builds a lasting friendship

Because that’s what you’re saying.

Or is it more likely they came from running into each other out in the world or the experience of actually running a dungeon/raid (not inviting for it)?

Shammymarry made a similar post earlier in the thread. Like that post, this one actually is a reasonable counter to the addon.

The only counter i can think of is that the addon is server only. So if someone acts up/ straight up sucks (even after you politely try to help them!) they still get the server rep.

I used it all the time while leveling not sure where they think it did not work.

its the same, the automation makes it possible for people to skip social interaction…

you automate certain processes of the social scene… the social interaction you speak off, is still social interaction regardless, so you havent created any more of either way…

lets make sure classic stays classic, and make sure there isnt addons that automate the game play, as stated you yourself want a version that dont autoinvite, you even acused OP for pointing to a version that auto invites and saying its the wrong version, and your version dosent autoinvite… so why does it matter if you cant autoinvite people ?

Something isnt adding up, all of a sudden you are defending the very feature that you said your version dident have…

Yep, they’d be waiting an eternity for it to auto-fill… SINCE IT HAS NO AUTO-FILL!

The Devs said no such thing.

I’ve argued no such thing.

Like I said, believe what you want, but people are going to just use the existing auto-invite add-ons if ClassicLFG doesn’t have it.

I’m more surprised at the amount of people who keep claiming that Meeting Stones were just places to meet and didn’t have an actual function. Especially from people who claim to remember vanilla vividly.

bro everyone knows and that I already know that there was a malformed LFG system in place but didn’t have role queues and was mess…

Please don’t do that, certainly it was in TBC that it was completely reworked. I cite that if you need.

You were saying?

Remove now please. Thanks

It looked at your talents to see if you were a Tank, Healer, or DPS. If you need further confirmation that this was the case. Here’s Patch 1.7 for you.

Meeting Stones

  • A number of miscellaneous improvements have been made that should allow for better group forming when using the meeting stones.
  • You will no longer be kicked from the meeting stone queue when a player declines a group invite or when inviting someone that is already in a group.
  • You will now be informed that you have left the meeting stone queue when the group leader logs out.
  • Tanks and Healers will now be immediately added to the group by the meeting stone when they are the 5th member of the group.

No, I said quite the opposite. SOME came from the occasional LF— spam, but mostly it was from BUILDING A SOCIAL NETWORK.

And if people know while leveling that they don’t need to make friends because their add-on will get them in groups anyway, then all too often they won’t bother. They’ll let the add-on get them into group content.
