Here is the LFG Addon in action! Much worse than you thought

There is a discord dedicated to the addon, everyone can simply join and give feedback there  Its also difficult for me to keep track of all threads that are going on right now.

Why would he remove items just to put them back and risk getting the addon blocked?

I may check it out, but I have a feeling that it maybe biased in favor of the author. These forums are neutral ground and accessible by anyone.

Because over time those goal posts move. That’s the whole point of escalation. And even if he doesn’t, someone else might come and push the issue to see how much they can add to a LFG tool.

It is not, lots of helpful discussions happened already!

That’s their problem. Just like the gear score addon, if Blizzard doesn’t like the forked addon, they’ll break that one.

Exactly, and that’s what the anti-ClassicLFG tool want to happen. This addon gets broken and it helps to curtail future attempts at adding it or worse versions down the line.

Can’t we just break it when something like that comes out ?

No, that’s not how it works. Blizzard knows how their API works. They’re not going to cut off their nose to spite their face.

Pfft, the state of retail disagrees with you lol.

edit* the part about noses and faces, which is a joke.

Oh? And what would you have done differently oh high and mighty game developer?

The make or break here is the auto-spam and auto invite features, it crosses that line of an add-on just affecting the user vs it affecting and intruding on everybody else’s game experience.

I’d be just fine with blizzard banning this and addons that have similar features

Blizzard has already stated they will break addons that automate gameplay.

Me? I have no idea, I’m not a game developer. But the state of WoW has declined. Even Ion has admitted they made mistakes. His team pushed the pruning way to far and there were repercussions for that. Again it was a joke so don’t take it too seriously. Not everything said has to be a battle :stuck_out_tongue:

I will just say this and leave it at that, you are an exceptionally talented addon developer.

However, Classic is not the proper environment for modern styled addons that replicate visual elements or functionality from the retail game.

This addon would have been positively received if it had the look and feel of an old school message board with very limited functionality to post and update messages. Once you started adding buttons, visual elements, and other party administrative information from Retail, Classic players went into an aggressive defensive posture.

Classic players don’t want anything that resembles retail.

LOL this is the truth.

They have about automation yes. But they’ve been vague on the subject of LFG tools which I imagine will be addressed in the next few days in some fashion. But if they say tools like this are acceptable and don’t take away from the Classic feel, then someone will seek to push that even farther. They might even hit a point where Blizzard says this is too far and breaks that addon. But how far away from a Vanilla experience would we move until that happened? That’s assuming they don’t break it right out of the gate and issue a statement saying LFG addons are not welcome in Classic.

Why was it added to begin with? Can you answer that? Did they think it would just fly under the radar?

No, the original intend was to form large groups for world events. I didn’t think people would want to use that for dungeons, because it would form non viable groups for them. That’s why I removed it for dungeons and only allow it for custom groups.

What about people using it for world content like elites similar to how custom group finder is used for world quests?
