WOW this thread has blown up. Gonna put in my 2 cents…I don’t think this add-on is a big deal. As some others have mentioned:
It is not cross realm
It does not teleport you to the dungeon, you still have to travel there (unless 2 people are already waiting at a meeting stone). So you will probably still chat with the group after the group is formed.
It’s not going to magically make the dungeons super easy like they are on retail. The only thing it does is makes it so you don’t have to actually type “lfg”…Like honestly what’s the big deal?
If you don’t want to use the add-on then don’t use it. Even if the majority of people are using it, you still should be able to play the game just fine. Make a group the old fashioned way or whisper somebody using the add-on and get invited to their group.
Decursive played the game for you, which isn’t the same as any of the add-ons I just described at all. Decursive was quickly broken in Vanilla, BagOn and Combuctor and Wardrobe and so on were not. It wasn’t broken because of efficiency, but because it took the gameplay decisions out of the game. The rest of this is nonsense based upon the aforementioned false assumption.
There is a group of about 4 or 5 of them defending this add on. I would not rule out character swapping to bolster the argument. Anyway these same people have been badgering every poster that is against this add on for the last week. Most the them are going to troll you, shout over you, with intent just to silence you. For sure your never going to change their mind, as I have been on the anti lfg add on for the last week and have witnessed this.
This addon needs to burn! Most modern addons dont velong in classic, Esoecially this one. I personally wish one change they made with classic compares to original vanilla is i wish there were no addons.
To the people who want this lfg addon…
Question: Why do you want to play classic instead of retail? Retail has all the content of classic and more, but the world is empty?
Yes you note the difference in QOL addons quite nicely vs addons that played the game for you. As you quoted i made a case to say its POSSIBLE for an LFG addon to do these things based on the current API. This is something blizzard should look at. If they want to keep the add on as something that is in the game without some of the way that it could clearly be automated for creating groups that is up to Blizzard.
That mocking attitude will get you your karma. A stand alone auto invite add on combined with LFG add on will have automated joining. Nice mocking a person that really cares.
Filtering chat and sending out automated invites based on parameters or user choice are available in other add-ons that aren’t being scrutinized so heavily here. That’s really why I’m so amused by this whole discussion because so many of the ClassicLFG functions were used individually by other add-ons. There’s an add-on that is literally just AutoInvite. These aren’t “playing the game for you” add-ons.
If your character isn’t being moved or casting spells without you having to think about it and do it yourself, the add-on is likely not a frowned upon automation.
Lol exactly. This is probably one of the prime identifiers between people who actually played back then and people who pretend they did.
Blizzard’s LFG tool was feces. 99% of addons that attempted to solve this were feces. We would have loved something like this, rather than sitting in that zone’s /1 or constantly advertising in /2.
Which is why there is no slippery slope. We know exactly what existed at the end of each of these expansions. The curse of LFR tier “raiding” is going to come whether people like it or not if we get Legacy Cataclysm and onward.
