When this announced, they said it’d be a long process, that the UI elements would be in place before they started breaking the API.
What happened to that philosophy?

Great question! Because the plan to “build it, test it, validate that you can do combat without addons” was actually a GOOD plan. The new plan to “break addons, before we even finish developing native replacements, let alone do any verification & validation” is a BAD plan. Subsequently, It seems likely (to me at least) that this was directed from way above Ion’s paygrade (think Phil Spencer’s team at MS Gaming telling the Blizz team “make it portable to Xbox, but don’t tell anyone that’s why you’re changing strategy”).

Just by readin this alone, combat addons removal is the best change in the last 30 years of WOW existence.
Also in the last 4 days I literally swam, bathed in the tears of elitists and was sitting on the beach of the elitist tears ocean, how uncommon for these forums, ngl it feels awesome and I am gloating.
Someone in the development team (or maybe MS) finally thought about WOW,
not as a personal hate platform towards casuals but as a product which should be designed for mass consumption.
I know its an alien concept for most of you here, but trust, this is very good.
you do realize that in this instance… YOU are the “elitist” correct? and if you don’t see that… pity, because nothing can be done to mend your mind.
Here is a question no one is asking about Addon purge - #9 by Eàu-warsong the game was designed to use addons… changing that changes the core design philosophy of the game… something sales show never works that great for Blizzard… the sales and sub numbers back this up over years…
