What if I told you the gate is merely an illusion?
There is an addon called Mythic Dungeon Tools, that allows you to plan out your route. You can even share the route with other people who have the addon. See if you can get some routes from tanks that run higher keys and then you can work on those.
Basically if you didn’t go to icyveins and copy everything they tell you to do you don’t get an invite. Also if you aren’t the right class.
So there is no difference whatever between queuing for a random and finding a player-created group, applying, and being accepted? Are you sure you are playing the same game as others in this thread?
I think it is more than that…
There is gatekeeping for the specs and classes, but also if you are slow on the trigger for getting your raid-io up fast enough, you will miss the wave and never be invited again.
If you are a underdesired class+spec AND you were too slow in getting your Raid-io up, you are completely screwed as far as pugging.
Guilds work the same way too in my experience.
Yes, and I think Acella was spot on with this:
Interacting with others is harder for some people, even with the shield of anonymity on the internet. There may be anxiety and insecurity they’ll be rejected or judged. So some may avoid any interaction where they have to put themselves out there to initiate contact and risk being turned down.
I tend to think that’s partly why M+ queue is a popular request.
It’s just a gigantic pet peeve of mine. We are the authors of our own destiny (to bastardized a quote) and why someone would sit around waiting for someone else to make them happy is completely beyond my understanding. I get that not everyone wants to/is comfortable with making their own groups and I sympathize, truly, but that still does not make it any one else’s duty to devote themselves to making you happy.
/soapbox
ppl dont even know routes in lower keys
I recognize that this could be an unfortunate symptom of class and spec imbalances. However, I can’t see this being the main reason. Perhaps at the margin?
its not I did my ksm as a fury warrior and now Im gearing a BM hunter for 9.1 just fine
Yes I am playing the same game. You forgot the 3rd option. Form and run your own group. That option is there. Thus the gate is an illusion.
As always, there are Discord groups set up for this very purpose. Helping people find groups. All types of players, running all levels of keys.
So I play a havoc DH, I’ve pugged my way up to almost 1800 io as a “off meta, melee dps”. There have been several times I have waited 2 hours to get into a key, mainly the roadblocks being around when I needed 15s for KSM and pugged 18+ keys. Gatekeeping is a real thing but not the end all be all. The reason you get people saying “need fire mage and boomy!” Is because of their uncapped aoe through flamepatch/flamestrike and convoke/starfall. Also this expansion for some f**kin reason decided to make alot of trash enemies unkickable and instead have to poly/cyclone/root/hex or hard stun to interrupt, for ex. Stealthlings, tentacles, or shield guys in PF, the kneeling guys or whirlwind guys in hakkar wing and manastorms in DoS, NW, ToP they all have it. This has made melee or off meta less desirable, dps isn’t the issue, it’s utility… but also dmg lol. Below 16s it honestly shouldn’t matter much comp wise, above 18s though it becomes more of a needed thing because not stunning certain enemies or making mistakes can mean destroying a key
Assuming you’re talking about raiding guilds.
I actually think it’s kind of the opposite for guilds unless you’re a tank. This tier might be a little different too because it’s dragging on, but it’s hard to maintain a roster this far into the tier with how many people burnt out or quit. Anecdotally, my guild would probably consider someone who was 0/10M if they had good heroic logs, and that wasn’t the case about a month ago.
I used to think that, but lately on this toon and my hunter I have been running my own keys, and I usually have at most 2-3 dps applying, so this myth that people are getting over 9,000 applicants for me at least isn’t true.
That isn’t necessarily true, I just need two more instances to get all 10+, yet got refused time in and time out from 10+ even though my IO is 800 and I have done 6/8 10+ with the exception of SOA and PF.
So running your own group means the group is now not a group leader vetting applicants but constructed instead by the system? How exactly does that change it from player-formed to ~something else~?
It’s still a player deciding who gets to join that group and who doesn’t.
I bet if Blizzard offered major rewards to people who tank (and lesser but still significant rewards to those who heal), it could solve a bunch of problems by removing the imbalance.
Why would they do that? They want there to be a tank shortage in mythic+. That serves as an incentive they have created to “encourage” players to join guilds.
They tried that with heroics.
There is still a major imbalance.
As far as my groups go, the only gatekeepers are the people who are
- A class we are looking for specifically, like a ranged strong at aoe or single target clas
- People with higher item level
- People with same item level same desirable class as you but better io/more timed runs.
Unfortunately for many people, all 3 of those things exist every single time they apply for a run.
