I’ll get to 120, then do the low hanging fruit, gear-wise, and not worry… because the next expack will invalidate all your gear and throw all those hours of grindage out of the window.
Leveling a new char through Legion is very awkward - all the relic power items are now grey vendor trash.
I can tell you from experience that if it is burning you out now, it will be that much worse after you get it. My advice would be to unsub. Take a break.
Play other games. If you still miss WoW after that, re-sub. Otherwise, just have the devs of your next favorite game send Blizzard a letter of appreciation for your money.
I guess i was looking for more of a answer along the lines of if the grind ever stops/at what point does the game become sort of enjoyable again Vs the train tracks of do this, repeat, do this, reapeat
Unsub.
Blizzard doesn’t care about feedback. They make their decisions based on metrics. Thus, if you don’t like the game, staying subbed sends a signal that you actually, in fact, are willing to continue with what you have.
Every time I feel this way I quit, buy some steam games like City Skylines–get bored cuz no action/steep learning curve. Or fighting games like Tekken 7, get bored quickly. Or a new mmo like Eve online-- again, sounds cool and all, but there’s so much to learn and so far behind… just can’t get into it.
So then I take up other activities for a while like making music again and other creative endeavors. And a few months later… resub to WoW.
Now I have 4 alts, two at 410+ and two 420. So when Ret is feeling strong but BORING, I can heal. And when players ignore protecting their healer in pvp and I remember why healing pugs is infuriating… switch to tank and learn the dungeons better.
Then hop on the rogue and try to start liking 2 of the strongest specs instead of my favorite forgotten spec-- sub, which I play despite it being ridiculed.
Then hop on the hunter and play some BM. Have some fun, realize there’s missing personal missing from the spec for the millionth time, then start fiddling with Survival. Realize it’s like a warrior, log out, log onto lvl 91 warrior to get him closer to 120.
Then hop on the mage, grab some jumpy fruit (deepcoral pods) and… blah blah… you get it.
Point is, there’s always something new to do in some fashion on any given character. I’d take a break or make more characters for variety. There’s something to be said having choices at your disposal. It can revitalize your interest in WoW.
Take a break. That’s kind of what I’ve been doing. I play some, but not like I used to. I’ve played through the Dead Space games the last couple weeks for the most part. I love it. Jump on my pc, load up the game. Get the crap scared out of me for a couple hours, then do something else. Check to see if there’s an emmisary worht it. do my mission board from my phone.
That doesn’t really solve the problem of the thing.
It just kind of… sends someone off for a while and then invites them back for the exact same thing they left for.
I mean, if anything it’ll probably diminish your desire to return to the game if you find something more interesting.
Case in point: even these forums have served as a complete replacement to the game world (as it presently stands in all its BFA “glory”) for myself and perhaps others.
So while I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, I’d say you don’t really even need to come back to the game or even interact with the game itself as a sort of “yes and…” to your suggestions for rekindling interests.
In other words, there are a million things you can do outside of the game, including things still pertaining to WoW, in order to keep your interest, but as far as maintaining a sustained interest within the game itself… if you have that ability, well, then good for you and enjoy!
I read this a lot. It seems like a bad look to me when people start to enjoy the game more by avoiding your only relevant content entirely.
I think the only way to avoid this issue is to come to peace with very casually playing end game and get my enjoyment out of leveling my alts

The sub is the price of a movie ticket, if you can justify getting 4ish solid fun hours out of it, it’s worth it!
But just get use to casually playing and enjoy it for what it is and the game seems a lot more fun
If you want good gear, it is going to be a constant grind, but gear shouldn’t matter unless you are pushing content like raiding or Mythic+.
You can farm archaeology or old content as non-competitive things to do. Maybe try leveling alts as well.
I basically just want to pvp, where i always found my fun, mythic once in a while
That’s another option for sure, but since PVP is more gear dependent now, you practically have to pve just to get decent gear for rated. If you aren’t doing rated, then gear doesn’t matter as much as luck and skill do.
Yeah i noticed that i am almost forced to do mythics for gear acceptable for rated.
The one thing I like about conquest is that you know exactly what you are going to get by capping it, so you actually have something to work towards. Mythic+ is a good way to get gear but it’s entirely random. If you just want gear, I wouldn’t do anything higher than a 10 just to get it over with.
To be fair, you are kind of like the bratty kid in the candy store that is mad because he only likes 2 of the 300 kinds of candy they have. You seem mad at Blizz but you only use the game for 2 activities. I understand that not everyone likes all of the options in WoW. But there are things to do. you just dont want to do them.

I wished many times that azerite was vendorable trash or auto-converted to a little gold. Needless to say I enjoy the legion AP tokens nowadays
See its your uneducated answer that really does the post no good. What good is 300 candys if it takes you 3 months to get 150 of them?
