Really? Really??!?? REALLY??!!??!!?
ugh i’m still not at that level yet…skill issues i know… ![]()
nah healers don’t have to dps, some do because it is literally part of their healing rotation like disc and fist-mw
generally a healer in tougher content is trying to protect their mana for mistakes from the tank and dps, so they don’t dps, and easier stuff it literally doesn’t matter at all if the healer does damage
but if you are sitting at max mana all the time and the team has demonstrated that they are solid at avoiding the creation of mana emergencies, you could throw in some dps – or not
this is just a game, play ONLY in the style that entertains you and nothing else. Do not let anyone dictate your playstyle to you. There are tons of fish in the sea for grouping. These are all just faceless internet strangers except for a limited few who you actually form some kind of relationship with and who understand your preferences and won’t be critical.
manual grouping with randos is one of the worst experiences in wow for many many players
you are posting from one of the highest damaging healers in the game bruv (and fisty damage comes with bonus healing-- people always mention disc and pallies and ignore us).
spin to win (I do over 100k dps and 200k hps spin healing that final orb pack in VP prior to engaging the boss-- my favorite pull in the game).
But yeah, I have always pref the combat medic style. Bonus that mw monk is in a pretty decent spot right now.
This topic is silly because 99% of replies are based on people talking about how they will not do something they were never asked (or so rarely its irrelevant) to do something anyways.
You dont want to use your entire tool kit? Thats ok. But I bet 99% of healers saying they will never dps arent doing the content where its asked for anyways.
If you are doing 20s or lower, healer dps is not needed. But the bravado of people saying they will stick to their guns…on something they will never be asked to do…is just cute.
Guess what? Healers shouldnt be required to kick puppies to participate in dungeons.
Sure. No one is actually saying to. But you know what? I promise I will never join a dungeon where I am told I need to kick a puppy. That crosses a line. I am there to heal. Not kick puppies. And if someone tells me to kick puppies (which they arent), I will just drop group and refuse to do it. Kicking puppies is not part of the healing role, and I will steadfast refuse to give in to Blizzard to do this thing no one is requiring me to do.
pats self on back
People on this board would set the world ablaze if it meant that they didn’t have to come to terms with the fact they are playing badly.

Healers should conserve their resources for “healing”. A medic in a squad doesn’t waste energy and resources in direct combat, unless protecting themselves and their casualties. Requiring the healer to always be using resources is unoptimal and inefficient.
What resources
DPS is mana positive.
I only complain when i have to heal massive damage while having to control every affix this season. The affix needs to be a dps thing because dps is the easiest thing in the game.
Good healers will. When healing isn’t needed. End of discussion.
Yup they made some healing spells still regen mana. Spamming wrath still gets you mana back for example.
Some healers even regen mana by attacking like priests with a spell/ evokers with the disintegrate talent. Shamans with the crit talent.
I do what I want. Take it or leave it. I also want to play how I WANT TO PLAY. Crazy! Idc if some “thing” does a bit more healing, if I don’t wanna do it, I won’t! and if your decent we will be okay. ![]()
We’ve been required to do this since day 1 in Final Fantasy XIV. You either get used to it, or you switch roles. Spamming aero and stone between heals seems hard at first, but it gets easier after practicing for a bit. The same applies to SWP and smite or whatever your class equivalent is.
A lot of the healer dps spells are easy damage.
Pally? Consecration. Heals people too.
Resto shaman? Healing rain. (Acid rain talented)
Druids? One sunfire is already alot of damage every few gcds.
Monk, fistweaving…
Disc? Keep your dots up and it acts like a HoT for everyone who is under your healing.
This response should be copy/pasted in every single one of these threads. Nobody has ever once asked most of these people in game to do this lol, let alone got on them for doing too little damage. It’s tiresome.
Play the way you want to play, but also accept that you’re not using your entire toolkit and aren’t as efficient and good as you claim to be! It’s ok. It really is. Nobody can make you play a way you don’t want to play. Play the way you want and get the outcome you deserve.
Dps spells as a healer either cost minimal/no mana or actually help gain mana or healing resources like holy power.
Massively gutting dps spells mana cost for healers several expansions ago was one of the key things even allowing decent healer dps at all. The other thing was removing hit rating so healers can actually land spells/attacks at all.
That gcd should always be spinning, so if you aren’t healing, you should be hitting the thing.
I’ve never once seen someone ask a healer to be a dedicated dps. 99 times out of a hundred it’s been a healer getting tilted because someone told them to dps in downtime instead of just standing there with their johnson in their hand.
You mean this? The talent?
Cool. Except when one has to switch talent points around because of affixes, making sure you have interrupt talented, etc etc.
See where I am headed with this?
Yes, Pallys tend to be in melee range (although, there is the ranged thing Blizz is playing around with). Yes, Pallys smack things to get Holy Power.
However, dps’ing anything comes far, far behind when we have to heal derps who insist on standing in things, eating frontals, etc.
