Healers - any addons to make it easier? or just practice?

Hello world.

I sometimes main a healer and actively avoid mouseovers because they feel weird.

Please crucify me.

I use Vuhdo and a gaming mouse with the numbers on the side. After playing many classes I’ve found that the majority of them work the same and so do healers in a sense so with that in mind I’ve created a system that makes sense to me to help keep the healing and dps spells separate yet their functions are similar enough that I don’t have to think so much to know what button to hit for a certain purpose.

Basically all of my main healing spells are bound to mouse over the Vuhdo plates and the click buttons. Right and left click and then ctrl-left and ctrl-right are usually enough to bind two mana cost efficient spells or one of those and a HoT and two quick bigger mana spending heals or an instant bigger heal.

This way one side of my mouse I use for relaxed cost efficient healing and the other side for faster heals.

The middle button I always use as my cleanse button. Ctrl-middle button is my covenant ability.

So now here with the numbers is where I align my dps spells with my healing but the only difference is when I’m moused over Vuhdo it will be for healing. Movement enhancing spells I use 7 for. AoE dps or healing spell 4. The - button is my major oh no spell. 0 is a personal defensive. 1 2 and 3 are the only ones I let be whatever it is and the more I use them for their purpose the more used to it I become.

It’s just been an easy way for me to remember what button will do what for me and truly it works for almost all characters just fine.

If there is a certain way you set up all of your characters just use that set up but try to align your healing spells the same way on your mouse and mouse over addon to make it feel natural.

I feel the same way about Vuhdo

I literally could not heal without an addon in WoW. I personally use healbot, but I know there are other addons.

I think it’s just a matter of practice and finding what works for you. I like mouseovers and decursive, I use tell me when to let me know the status of buffs on target and focus for dual tanks. targettarget macros for dps.

If you really want a crash course on healing run a random BG or two.

My wife started playing with Vuhdo and Healbot and all the other big addons that people hype up.

Her skill jumped considerably when I finally convinced her to go with wow raid frames and mouseover macros. So those will always have my vote.

I just use grid and hotkeys.

I personally think mouse over macros are really stupid.

But im old.

Idk I’ve clicked healed raids before and it went fine. I think it’s overrated on the mouseovers.

Healium is different from a normal raid ui. It has a bar for each character, so the character bars sit on top of each other and each bar repeats all the heals. If you tried using Healium in a raid your entire screen would be full of character bars.

a healer in my group uses healbot cause it lets her heal with a mouseover

I can see that being useful but i personally dont use it, id say its mostly practice, get used to healing and youll keep people mostly up

sometimes it will get dicey, thats just the nature of the beat

Have all your dps keybinds not used by vuhdo so you can keep your mouse over their frames and DPS and just use tab target

I would say it’s more of practice to see what your cooldowns can do. There may be a few things Blizz changed that might cause some awkward moments if you expected an effect that doesn’t exist anymore. I’m looking at the borrowed power systems >.> Maybe check a site like Icy Veins again to make sure.

For addons, I mostly just use Decursive, Details and DBM. Decursive makes dispelling magic debuffs so much easier. The usefulness of Decursive also depends if you are using other UI addons. I think ones like HealBot already has the Decursive function. The UI is still default for me.

I always used healbot, lot of people use clique (probably better than healbot), but without addons healing is pain.

If you’re healing just get an addon, it’ll make your life easy.

Esp for retail where you got utility and dps spells, you want to have your dps and utility spells on your action bars, and healing spells on clique or smthn.

That way you can dps and use useful abilities while also healing, thus making yourself a desirable healer.
Standing in back and healing is kinda thing of past, doing so cuts off half your potential.

I do dps in dungeons by keeping the tank targeted and using targettarget macros for dps abilities.

I use healium. It’s fine up to 10 man raids. After that, it would get complicated. But I learned to heal clicking so I just stuck to it.

I have a couple weak auras set up but that was because I used to suffer from a UI bug that no longer happens.

Aside from that I don’t use any healing addons. I don’t feel the need to rely on one when all I needed to do was change how everything was bound.

35+ abilities bound and all of them easily at my fingertips!

Been doing it for years.

Read title of thread.

Addons make it easier, sure if you play for years to manage without, knock yourself out, but with addons you can heal on same level with just days of practice.

This! [Mouseover and target focus macros] is your best friend! I dont use any addon!

i only dabbled with holy priest in LFRs back in 2014, and used vuhdo addon in addition to keybinds with Razer Naga mouse

Healbot. Or an addon like it.

Why anyone would think that target clicking would be a viable option is crazy. There’s just too much to do as a healer to try and use the regular UI. You’re not a DPS, don’t try to heal like one. It’s a completely different game and requires you play it differently then you would play WoW otherwise.
