Having 10+ layers per server is absolutely game breaking and undermines the entire purpose of this project

You aren’t even forming coherent sentences. Wtf

I’ll use crayon and pictures next time.

Are you suggesting im lying about them lying and moving the goalpoasts with this sharding stuff 3 times already?
A quick google can show you. It went from nochanges, to sharding in the starting zones, to continent wide “layering”
Is that not 3 lies and 3 goalposts?

So tell me then, what is the guarantee it is getting turned off phase 1? Just a “bro trust me”?

I’m saying you’re like every other fool on here right now. Screaming into the void over something you (and everyone else) have zero control over at this point. We are two weeks out. This is going live (more or less) as is.

Yea no, sorry telling people not to say anything is nothing short of degeneracy.
If you have an actual argument against what I said fair enough, but to just say “bro deal with it” just because it probably wont get changed is BS.

I will make as much noise as I can, because I want classic to be the best it can be. Sorry you don’t like that

BIG TRUE

Layers are stupid. Just make more servers.

I’d argue that dealing with layering for a few weeks on launch is vastly superior than dealing with low pop or dead servers in the long term.

Yeah the rest of us are fully aware of the those that are having tantrums. I can see both pros and cons with the system. I’ve also seen those pros and cons posted hundreds if not thousands of times in the last few days. We have seen it, Blizzard has seen it.

At this point it should all be rolled into a solitary stick thread. So that other discussion can continue on these forms.

Yes because you are so cool and edgy for being a detached contrarian and not being invested.

Go tip your fedora somewhere else. Some people care about this game

Well looks like I’m not subbing if that’s the case… If I wanted to play with ghosts I’d play live wow right now. Probably going to wait a month or so and see how it plays out.

I guess Classic will just have to get along without you huh!

See you in two weeks lol.

If 15 bucks feels like too much to risk, then I’d say you are making the right choice.

For my own purposes I understand why Blizzard is going with layering and used to support it. It seems their implementation of it has a lot of technical problems, but I consider that a different issue from the need for layering for a time after launch.

However, I now wish they had just gone with the 89 servers they had with vanilla. “You think you do, but you don’t,” was wrong when it came to Classic’s existence, and it’s wrong when it comes to servers and layering. If the community’s shortsightedness is going to harm the Classic experience in the long run, Blizzard should just let it.

“When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.” Matthew 27:24

Look, the reality is that phase 1 will not be the community establishment phase for, in my opinion a few reasons.
It’s going to me a massive crap show of players trying it out and ultimately leaving. It’s likely going to go down like this. Phase 1, people will rush to the servers to try it out. After few months or even weeks down the road we will see the first mass exodus of 70-90% of the post Wrath babies who cant live without the hold your hand updates and the time consuming leveling process. This process will continue until there is a healthy dedicated community who knows why they are there and what they want from the experience at or around the end of phase 1.

Roll in phase 2, your loyal classic players are now apparent and with the “This sucks!” kids filtered out it will be a much better time for the community to take root because as I said if you stuck around through phase 1 it’s likely you are here because you love it and want to see it through. This is just my opinion of course. I do see your fears. I would just say to let the dust settle a little with the massive influx of people trying it out and leaving before we establish a community worth keeping. Cheers mate, ill see you in Classic!

That’s all fine and good on paper, but in practice is another story. Blizzard isn’t exactly known for their track record on keeping promises made to us and in many cases has outright lied to us. Remember when we were told were were going to be getting player housing in WoD? Nope that didn’t happen. Instead we got a phased area that ALL of us shared via Garrisons. A prime example of this layering/sharding tech and how it completely kept us from the need to visit major cities and socially interacting with anyone once we could assemble all the pieces needed to have an AH bot. Hearing Blizzard say that this layering/sharding is only temporary doesn’t assuage my fears/uncertainty/doubts that they won’t just keep it active all the way through. I don’t TRUST them one bit, and for good reason. They already destroyed the game for me once, care to hedge bets on how long it will be before they inevitably do it again??

I’m with you man, don’t let these people get to you. There’s a bunch of them saying “well it’s too late to change it so just shut up and take it”. It’s like they are forgetting the entire purpose of forums or feedback and are completely oblivious to how change gets started. Honestly I think it’s some sort of ad-hoc rationalization where it’s less traumatizing to convince themselves they are okay with it than to be faced with an unpleasant reality.

Not my problem. Just like how Netflix’s server woes aren’t my problem. If Netflix came out and said “Hey everyone, we need to cut everyone’s feeds to 480P because server crowding.” there would be people defending it on here and making excuses as to why people should continue to slurp down 480P.

Layering is a non-solution that Blizzard is somehow getting PAYING customers to defend. Cripes.

This entire post is an example of why Blizzard isn’t responding to the anti-layering whinging and you’re not getting what you want. A. dead servers will be your problem if they happen. B. Pretending a problem doesn’t exist is beyond useless. Complaining about the solution to that problem without coming up with alternatives is unhelpful. If I were Bliz, I’d be ignoring these types of posts too.

LOL, 10? There’s going to be like 50-100 layers.
