An employee in the local iQos store got an alliance tag on his keys and I said “Yo, nice key tag you’ve got there” and he just awkwardly giggled and thanked me. That was a weird situation.
Another time when I jobbed at a bakery, there was this postman who came by almost every afternoon for a coffee break. For a long time we had just some casual smalltalk about weather, traffic, world politics and customers. And then one day he explained that he wouldn’t come in the next week, he would be taking a few days off. After asking whether he was going on vacation, he talked about “just some video game release” and I knew he was talking about Legion. So we shared bnet. Unfortunately he stopped playing soon after that.
My wife and I met in Vanilla. We’ve been together since then. I wet to the midnight launch of both BC and Wrath, does that count?
sure, if you met her there
I do my best to avoid you people irl

Four of my RL face to face friends play WoW so yea.
I remember walking by a group of guys in the backroom of Target when I worked there. They were talking about raids and stuff. I spouted off some stuff about it in passing and their jaws almost hit the floor. “You play Wow?”. I’m 63 and yes I do. They always talked about with me after that.

I’d be too shy to approach a random person wearing a WoW shirt, or with a tattoo. I have met people in real life that I’ve talked to in WoW though.

Couple times. Most of the time people just kinda assumed I’d be rude to them if they said they were alliance. So they’d be surprised

I don’t recall it for WoW, but it happened for Overwatch. I was wearing an OW shirt at the time. Learned that the person taking my order was a Lucio main.
Went to a Blizzcon once and everyone on the plane from a connecting flight from Salt Lake City to Anaheim was a WoW player. A whole 747 full of Wow players!

When I was working construction, my go to ball cap was an Alliance one.
I got For the Horde’d by some random dudes, then a wolf whistle. Classy.
I also once had my server at like, Wendy’s, go “Excuse me, miss, but the Horde wins more battlegrounds.” I shot back with, “Not when I’m playing” and we laughed about it. I should see if I can dig that hat up, though I’m older and not as cute these days. Might not have the same effect.

I’m sure I’ve come across people over the years, but I never talked to anyone specifically that I recall nor have I made any friends that play, so kind of a bummer.
I do like the idea of getting a couple shirts though and wearing them in public to see if anyone approaches me. I’ll have to see if I can find a place that sells cheap t-shirts, I don’t like spend more than $10 for a shirt if I can help it.
Hopefully if someone does approach me, they still play and don’t come up with some “nice shirt, I used to play back in the day, but don’t anymore, it was too addicting” or something like that, lol.

I mean only when you’re flirting with someone 20 years younger than you.

Besides people I already knew or met at work that played and some randoms, I saw this inside of a theater bathroom on 12-18-2009 (according to the file date)…does it count?

I went to Gen Con each year in '03, '05, '06 (and I know Blizz had WoW set up there, maybe multiple years); plus, I used to go to a couple of tabletop game shops for a few year…so, I 'm sure I’ve met many people that play. But, I don’t recall talking WoW in particular with anyone. Well, except for someone I was in a Pathfinder game with, who I know played, but I didn’t mention that I did because I didn’t like him.

When I was active duty my boss played a paladin and one of my coworkers who later became my roommate played a shaman.
In MOS school my roommate and a few classmates played.
A friend from high school played.
When I worked at Circuit City three of my coworkers played.
One day I went to Fry’s (computer store) to get something and had on a Horde shirt. Some idiot said “Horde sucks Alliance rules” and I never again wore Wow clothing outside my home
pro tip IRL: don’t speak to me
I meet players all the time. But uh… your story did have some creep vibes. I usually just bring it up nonchalantly like “Heh, for the alliance.”
