All of this! Seriously theres lots of places to explore all throughout bfa.
I like going back over quests and looking around the mini houses we dont actually have to go in just to explore.
Boralus has too many to name
I think they made a right decision in putting all utilities in one central place. What I do think they could’ve done better is making the main Tiragarde Sound storyline to interact more with other parts of Boralus.
You basically only get to visit the castle area, the player hub and that’s about it. The rest of the city you - might - go if there’s a WQ around there.
A good example on how it was perfecty done was Suramar. It’s the same principle: big city shaped like a whole zone itself, and the main storyline take you to explore most of it.
If thats the case I wish they thought horde wasn’t that smart because Dazar’alor is pure garbage. Looks good but the good ends there.
Sorta. My first exposure was via my Horde toon pre flight and I was scoping out all the areas west of the city thinking what is all this. It all looked run down and like Suramar built by peasants.
I actually though, hey it can be worse than a vertical labyrinth for the Horde. Then I made my Ally toon and was upset everything important was within walking distance and those areas are just filler.
For all the failures of Boralus, Horde needs an actual flight point to get to all their stuff from the top of the pyramid. There’s not much up there either, really makes me wonder why the inn wasn’t just at the docks where, you know, every other thing is.
There is a second Inn down there, its the Golden Winged Monkey thing.
This. Exactly this.
The thing that annoys me the most about exploring Boralus (and Dazar’alor) is being attacked by hostile mobs within my own faction city.
Not much fun exploring the nice bar area you just found when if you move a smidge too far to the left you’ll pull aggro.
I have explored a lot of Boralus and it blows my mind. I’m an rp snob who likes knowing “secret” spots to incorporate into my rp so I’ll often explore an area for an hour just to get a feel for my options. Boralus is insane! Secret cellars, buildings with no real purpose beyond giving generic npcs a place to idle, the hedge maze, the tea and cake party, etc. There is such an incredible attention to detail on display that it’s hard to compliment one specific feature.
In a there anywhere I can see the unreleased versions of boralus? Couldn’t find anything on YouTube
The original Boralus was used in a lot of promotional material they showed at Blizzcon. Most notably they used it in the Tiragarde Sound preview and the BFA features trailer. If you want a map view, you’re going to want to dig through and find the first datamined Alpha build for BFA either through MMO-Champion or Wowhead. I don’t remember the build number but I believe the date it was datamined was the 26th of January 2018.
Edit: found it.

Thanks for this. I had no idea any of that existed. I always just assume everything in WoW is just for show, so I never really take the time to explore. I’m definitely going to look for this stuff now.
I agree. The detail in some of the flower beds themselves, the back alley, my favorite place to park this toon after a long, hard day is the restaurant in Uptown Boroughs, always ride my dapple grey horse there and dismount before entering (unless super tired) it’s got tables over the water facing Drustavar mountains one way… next to the semi-circular fire pit (where her pretend “guy” hangs out). --I really need to figure out the roleplaying crowd - or just keep up with my writing until sells - ha,ha
I’m still finding nooks and crannies I didn’t know about. It’s fun to explore, but as often happens in WoW, I get a little frustrated that these wonderfully decorated buildings are all static scenery I can’t interact with. I guess the problem with urban gameplay is that if you have an actual densely-populated city, you’re just asking for lag.
It’d have been nice to give a quest or something to “clean up” the city that drives out the bad guys and leaves you free to explore the place in peace.
I don’t think the aggressive mobs in Boralus serve much purpose outside of giving you something to beat up for a couple of world quests.
Well, at the beginning of the expac it had the usual beginner quests to take you all over to find NPC’s & cat lady. And Suramar was it’s own zone (I absolutely hated that place so much - sry, no offense) — I think too, they realize some people just want to get into story and go, the heck with the scenery and awesome amount of hours we put into design - lol – that’s why they ixnayed the flying - so we would HAVE to go on foot and admire Every. Single. Corner. of a zone.
None taken lol! From a gameplay perspective, it was kind of annoying, I admit, but mostly because the illusion mechanic.
Yea, seen skinny Kultiran humans everywhere need to play as one , gg
