Is that a good thing? I dont know. Groups that know the mechanics can walk through dungeons almost taking no damage.
Noobs who dont know the mechanics will die over and over.
Maybe the boss mechanics could be a little more intuitive.

I mean, I feel like most are pretty intuitive, especially after seeing it happen once or twice.
Noobs are just horrible at the game and have virtually no skills in reading.
Everytime I tell all the dps (as instance leader on my healing alt) to kill the maggots (on normal Necrotic Wake). Still haven’t gotten through a normal run without a wipe at least once.
New players genuinely are just ignorant and refuse to listen to what the leaders say for fight mechanics.
Reading vs. watching a video. Usually huge difference in detail scrutiny
I think its ok honestly, that used to be the way it was during vanilla-wotlk. Its not the worst thing.
I donno… I think speaking for myself. Going into a dungeon whether normal or other wise… for the first time…
Dungeon journals don’t help me. I’m more of a visual learner… giving me text is nothing. I adapt to the ‘dont stand in bad’ stuff and just using DBM to help me or watching out on who casts what and thinking ‘‘ya I’ll just move this way’’.
I think the title is more ‘‘have to use youtube to learn mechanics’’
Would be nice if wow had a built in guide that shows you how to deal with dungeon mechanics step by step.
It’s not a huuuuge deal because we have YouTube but it would still be nice to have it in game.
I think the problem is no one has any patience. You could learn the mechanics if you could do the instance being allowed to fail. Unfortunately that will get you kicked every time.
Rule 1: Stuff on the floor? Probably bad get out.
Rule 2: got an aoe circle that follows you? Probably bad. Don’t stand near people.
Rule 3: linked to someone? Probably got to either run away from them or towards them.
Rule 4: got a dot on you? Pop a cd to reduce damage.
That will get you through most dungeon mechanics barring a few surprises like Devos. Or at least it has never failed me. But I rarely see beyond heroic. Take my advise with a grain of salt.
It takes more than just a few fights to learn many of these encounters. I do agree though, that once you know them, it dawns on you how easy it is to accomplish the fight.
I mean tbf I saw a boss where you have to position abominations with meat hooks to remove a boss from the platform, but that was an easy solve TBH, I would actually like more of those kinda mechanics where its totally new.
Adding more onto this thread.
I had dps in Necrotic Wake fail the hook mechanic 6 times in a row. We only got through it because I saved a javelin and on the first hook we finally got took nearly 3/4 of the boss’s hp.
Edit: And yes, I did tell the dps what to do. I even put a floating marker for where to stand during the beginning of the fight and explained it.
I thibk every dungeon has 1 boss that breaks my rules there apart. But 90% of the time they are accurate.
The chain thing messed me up my first time. Once I realized how it works it was easy.
Once I learned trash does the same mechanic, my brain exploded.
I had that same problem on necrotic wake, except for me, the tank kept the construct so close to the boss that we couldn’t get him to throw the hook in the right direction. Had to tell tank several times to move.
you know what my friends and I did?
we went in, and figured it out. no google needed.
can’t do that in pugs. Moral of the story: game’s better with friends.
Except when that circle is some sort of cleanse/heal thing that everyone needs to step into. Tough to know which is which.
So which is it? Towards or away?
Unless the boss has some sort of drain mechanic where the dot hurts them more than you. Then you have to be careful to get and keep the DOT instead of clearing it off.
My point is that these guidelines are ok but still very muddy. You either have to wipe a few times until you learn it yourself, hope to get lucky, or find a guide where someone else did that first. It’d be very nice to have more consistency in these guidelines but there’s so much going on in fights that it can be tough to use rules of thumb to get through them.
I’ve found that its more often bad than it is good. Though the color of the circle can help. Is it red or purple? Bad. Is it green or yellow? Maybe good? Risk it if you want.
Yup, and the problem comes in that I am wasting someone else’s time which is a valid complaint. It’s just this game, aside from having friends or guildies which I dont have, doesn’t allow you to really settle into any role and learn anything when even players in normal are already lambasting everyone.
The purest form of the game is 5 players going into a dungeon, having no idea what to expect, and sorting it out by trial and error.
Finding players who practice this is a rarity unfortunately. The rest of the players expect one to study all fights prior to getting to them, thus removing one of the fundemental perks of gaming in the first place (element of surprise).
It’s sort of like watching the kids back in the day who’d walk into a Gamestop, and walk out with a new title and the strat guide. A complete head scratcher.
I’m going to disagree there. I think if a player wants to be an elitist and have zero patience for someone making even one mistake, then they need to have an elitist guild/community and only play in that group.
That is instead of them saying you have to be flawlessly perfect to play otherwise you should have a group or community. I feel like if a PUG wants to be elitists, they shouldn’t be trying to PUG.
