I’ve always found the story silly, since day one. I don’t follow lore, play with the sound off 99% of the time, and skip most cutscenes.
Yet, I do have about /800 days played (nearly 20,000 hours) so clearly the lack of lore has no effect on my enjoyment of the game.
Couldn’t tell you why Thrall isn’t warchief (or is he? I dunno how Garrosh fits into this.) I dunno why Sylvanas is bad. I don’t have any idea, really, of what the storyline is for SL. I know the jailer is involved, but in what respect I have no clue. If my life depended on it, all I could say about past xpacs is:
-
BfA: Renewed hate between Horde and Alliance, because of the islands. The Zandalari queen had something to do with it (?)
-
Legion: Demon invasion. I don’t remember who the main bad boss was. We went to space (?) or another planet (Argus). The…light… was versus the dark.
-
WoD: Draenor is Outland in the past (?) so we were fixing something in Outland’s past. This is where Garrosh did bad stuff, or he didn’t, depending on who you ask.
-
MoP: Saving and joining with the Pandaren. Maybe this is where Garrosh did bad? I honestly don’t know. The Shas were causing trouble.
-
Cata: Deathwing set the world on fire. And he was a person, and/or both a person and a dragon. I don’t really get which, I never paid attention.
-
LK: The Lich King (I don’t actually know who it is; I thought it was Arthas but now there is Bolvar?) Anyway the Lich King used to be good and now he is bad because of a helm and sword. Bad Lich King.
-
BC: Demons invaded with a lot of Fel terror. “I am not prepared,” and all that. Illidan was either in charge or at least a major boss. I know he’s at the end of black temple, but I have no idea who he was previously, or why he is friendly in newer xpacs.
-
Vanilla: Orcs vs. Humans. Good vs. Bad. That’s about as far as I read into it. That and big, bad fire demon Ragnaros in Molten Core.
