We suddenly wake up from the Emerald Nightmare that we never really escaped from. This has all been a dream.
I don’t think Dalfurane and I have agreed on anything but on this we are !!0% in agreement.
On the one hand, there’s a whole lot of genuine criticism of the narrative of the past couple of expansions. On the other hand, WoW players are really dumb and struggle to comprehend basic prose even when it’s spoonfed to them.
So it’s a wash.
He writes how I see most roleplayers write their own characters.
And honestly? A lot of BfA was really good at the start. The best thing this man has probably done is make Tandred Proudmoore canon. That might not mean a lot for most people, but as someone who liked the RPG books the Siege of Boralus cinematic and the story building up to it was some of the best since Pandaria.
He is a game developer ‘who happens to write’. He is not an actual writer. You compare that to FFXIV that have actual writers and you see the difference in storytelling… To me, WoW lore is a lot cooler (thanks to Metzen), but they have destroyed it hiring unqualified people who are there to not tell a good, compelling story, but to advance their own personal agendas. They’re like fans who write fanfic.
He’s the Rian Johnson of Warcraft.
It kinda like they make it up as they go…
Care to elaborate?
Come to think of it, yeah. There are people like me who are generally content with the story for all its flaws, but the only people who I’ve seen who are genuinely ecstatic about the lore right now are the sweatiest Sylvanas fans on the forums.
if he was in charge of bfa and sl, then i gotta say ouch!
I actually think the lore overall is fine, the problem is the storytelling.
No, he’s a bum.
Emotionally, very character-centric and with a lot and time and effort into things we might not think about; and a penchant for reshaping canon or building up new sub-canon to build around the characters in focus to either justify their existence or build them up in a way the WoW universe might not support.
It’s not good, it’s not bad. It’s just a style.
The last couple expansions have patches and raids dedicated to enemies that entire expansions could have easily been crafted around.
Uh, if there’s gonna be a Soraya Montenegro character in 10.0 sign me up right now…
“Maldita lisiada!!!”

He makes a mean apple pie… okay its store bought, but he microwaves it just right.
Probably not. He seems to have started around the end of the WoD era as a quest designer. I am not sure what specifically he worked from Legion onward other than Sylvanas arcs but I think that’s proof enough of the extreme bad quality he’s brought to the table.
Really at this point, who gives a … flamingo?
It’s obvious that Blizzard isn’t writing the story for the players, they’re not writing the story for world building reasons.
They’re writing the story for Activision’s bottom line and that’s it.
Also, I object to the use of “fan” in the thread title, as nobody hates WoW more than WoW fans
If he has only been responsible for BfA and SL, then he should absolutely be fired.
