This is a request for information. I tried to search for it…
Has Blizzard ever looked into player housing. Not just a comment or a quick answer during an interview… I mean an actual thorough explanation of how they feel about it and why?
Absolutely. Garrisons started with the idea that they would be player housing. But by the time they got through 6 months of committee meetings, they had been turned into a quest hub and workplace.
As far as I know it’s a conversation that they’ve had internally, but they don’t think the juice would be worth the squeeze.
I tend to disagree, but understand it’d be a huge undertaking.
Oh, I should clarify that my information is years out and from an interview, so… take it for what it’s worth.
To the devs should they read this. I understand that costing us a raid would be huge, but creating something like player housing, which you can later piggy back more content off of, seems like a win in the long run.
Considered? Yes. They’ve gone on record stating as such.
Actually going to? Probably not
Chadthegreat would like this as well.
It’s Chadthegreat!
I heard he’s great.
Setting up personal housing is a much bigger effort than a lot of pro-housing people (I’m in this group) want to admit. The infrastructure needed would be the size of an expansion feature, like we saw in WoD, and as we did see in WoD there were so many obstacles with the engine, time, and skill required that what we got wasn’t what they had envisioned for the garrison system.
So, I do believe them when they say it would “cost a raid tier”. Not literally, but there’s a reason the competitors have a housing system that sucks, and another that was able to just slot it in (talking about ESOs engine being built with the same creation tool which allowed it to work with very little extra dev time on the actual engine).
That’s what I’m trying to find. Some source where they gave their thoughts and reasoning behind their decision.
As far as I know it was Ion stating that the time investment would be too great and it’d take away from other development needs. his example was costing the playerbase a raid tier. That’s the only instance of this conversation I can think of.
Unless you’ve got a listening device in their meeting rooms I doubt you’ll find anything overly detailed about their reasoning.
Remember when they said we’d be able to establish it anywhere on Draenor?
The only reason they’ve stated player housing hasn’t been added is because its a lot of work. Really is just that simple. They have tight deadlines for expac releases and I could imagine they really might have to work on something like that over the course of a few expansions.
I think we’re close. Wow, in my opinion, is going to revert to being an extremely casual friendly game. I don’t think its a matter of if, but when will they add it? I doubt it’d be as soon as next expansion.
I’m sure they have considered it, now if they ever planned on doing something like it, eh if they did it would be an expansion feature announcement.
It’s just like housing in real life for young people… They considered it but it’s just too difficult
Yes,
See: Garrisons
Yep. There was an interview somewhere that said if they did it, it would take a ton of time.
A comment during an interview isn’t good enough? Okay.
The video showing us all the spots they were supposed to go… ![]()
They talked about it in the preach/Ian interview. Long and short its a massive undertaking and would cut allot from devolvepment time. If this was a all players would love this feature sure I would accept sacrifices in other areas happily. Player housing aint it though.
Housing? What’s that? Is it the M+ level after +30?
If Blizzard made housing it would be monkey pawed into oblivion before anyone could go about using the clipping to create cool designs.
