I will be blueprinting my exterior and playing around with large exteriors when they are released. It will all be a mystery unless Blizzard does a newer write up in the coming weeks but at least I’ll should be able to revert easily.
It’d be nice if they actually let us copy over our full house XP properly to the PTR to even test the Large exteriors. As it is, I can’t get it to accurately do that. They should really just set everyone’s house level to max in PTR cycles where they’re adding levels.
This is me atm. I just did a complete overhaul of my exterior that I love and don’t want to lose it by trying to see what the large house will look like.
I’m home now. I’m at plot 27 and it’s HUGE!
Plots 23 and 32 are tiny by comparison
So is 22 and 3.
I don’t know… maybe I’m wrong. They sure do look smaller.
Good news, they wiped housing on the PTR (stick with me here) and when you copy over your character data again, your current houses and experience copy over.
Bad news, for me at least, I am about 700 experience from level 12… You need 22,200 total experience for level 12 and large exteriors.
So it’s live on PTR and I’ve unlocked it.
Matches the leaks from the Bluesky post I commented about earlier.
…And the house itself is MASSIVE. ~2x the footprint of Medium, maybe? At least the human one is, haven’t tried the others. RIP having space in your plot.
(Also plots are all identical in size, you can count the placement grid squares on the ground to confirm; would be really weird if Blizz implemented different sized plots without any explanation or direction, but in fairness a lot of info on housing is pretty obfuscated.)
I live at plot 23. It is spacious enough for me, as long as I do not size-up my exterior! LOL
Hopefully someone with the right amount of XP can test on PTR and maybe share some screenshots. I also wonder if the two hidden exteriors have been revealed (probably not but doesn’t hurt to check).
A guild of mine shared a pic of the Large Human and Night Elf houses and I’m impressed!
The human house basically added another building and the Night Elf one a tower. Idk about the customization options cuz I can’t view myself. Check the PTR and Im 1k xp short of lvl 11. Will have to grind out this current endeavour for sure.
Large Orc House adds a second floor. Large Blood Elf adds a tower.

Though the blood elf house in those screenshots seems a little disappointing compared to the others.
I checked all of the lots you mentioned (both yours and the ‘small’ ones) and more. I had pillars at the four corners based on the lot lines that show up when you edit the exterior. Every time I moved the house, the pillars were always at the corners where I placed them. Some lots might feel smaller because they go right up to the edge of the hillside. I also observed that I can place a large platform almost entirely outside of the borders on all four sides on every plot I tested. If I scale the platform up to 200 percent, I place about half of the platform outside the boundary line.
I had the same results on the Horde side as well.
The blueprint system is not ready for launch yet. I was having issues trying to delete decor on my exterior on Alliance so I saved my exterior to a blueprint and then I imported it see if I could edit the decor after that and a lot of my decor didn’t import back. Most notably, all of my garden clusters, shop items, mana lamps, and some of my silvermoon platforms had gone missing (didn’t check to see if they went into storage). I was able to delete the items left though so I checked the large Alliance exteriors and they are kind of big and they do cover a lot of the lot.
My blueprint experiments on the interiors had issues as well. When importing a room when I didn’t have all of the items available (having not actually deleted the saved room), the floor would literally be missing and I could only see grid below. Stepping into the floorless room causes me to fall and then be ported to the entry. It seemed especially bad with the stairwell room where even deleted the original room still caused the floor to be missing and a lot of the decor missing. Also, on every import attempt, one of the room walls would be entirely missing and I could see the void grid along with the ‘outsides’ of any other rooms of my house that were within my range of sight.
It sounds like they bungled something because when I tested before it wasn’t messing up that bad. I managed to save my whole “park” room and then use the BP to restore it elsewhere, so it definitely was sort of working (minus the top portion of stairwell rooms as I noted previously).
I’ll have a crack at it too tonight.
The one thing I wish they’d do is add an Undo feature to the house exterior section of the editor. We need to be able to press Esc or click some other button to revert to what we had, so we can preview the new exterior without permanently losing our work in the process. Moving decor already does this by pressing Esc before placing it back down.
On the plus side - the PTR will copy your current house over now with the XP - BUT!!! you need to visit the contractor first (after making sure you own a plot) and ask to upgrade it. I think that was part of my problem on Alliance in that I started trying to do stuff without visiting the contractor and it’s possible that is why my exterior blueprint didn’t save everything - maybe it only saved up to my lower exterior limit.
All of the plot sizes are the same size, unless you mean plots with more empty space around it…still, every plot has plenty of space. IMHO
Blueprints are active again and it does save your house exterior. Furthermore when switching the size of your house it doesn’t move it from its current center position. I saved a blueprint of the exterior, switched to medium house, moved it around, then loaded up the blueprint. Everything went back to the way it was originally.
I’m sort of attached to my house as it is. It’s no wondrous work of art, but it’s mine. I’m a bit worried it might be too late to be giving me new options that would require significant redesigns to use.
Holy, the size of those things. looks like Horde ones go upward while Alliance go to the side, now if only we could pick which one we could use regardless of Neighbourhood
Thank you for the video.
