So we all know the Large house exterior is coming and honestly, does anyone actually have any ideas on what will work for it?
I’m at what feels like a massive loss on how to design an exterior that will go well with the Large house, i know no one (as far as i know) has seen it yet even on the PTR but if the Medium house is anything to go by it’s going to take up a lot of our very limited outside space, hell my Medium Elven house barely fits inside the Plot as is so i am wondering how the hell i can design a nice looking Garden when the house could possibly take up over 50% or more of the usable plot space
tbh, I have literally no plan whatsoever lmao. The medium exterior worked out okay on the plot size we have but large???
I feel like my existing landscaping will have to be completely removed and I’ll have space for just a path, fencing, and some shrubbery along the edges.
I think that, with the large house, we’ll be decorating the house itself – which should be fun. I’m thinking that we won’t see much lawn. Who knows? Maybe a lot of creeping ivy and gilnean roses, that might be nice.
There are Larger Plots?, i thought they where all the same size
you know, that is actually a good idea/point small houses for doing stuff with the outside, Medium houses for doing both house and outside decorating and Large houses just for decorating the house, i will have to look into that
I am a Night Elf main, and I do not think there is anything I have to apologize for with keeping my outside the original size. I can’t imagine any guild being upset with how it looks inside or out. Well, I did have that snarky housewarming person the time before last who told me that less is more, or something like that… LOL But there is no accounting for taste…
But honestly, my exterior is chock full of goodies to see and do, spaces to role play, there are even hidden Easter eggs. What would I sacrifice if I made the house bigger?
The plots are all exactly the same size. Go to the PTR and buy a plot. Put a piece of decor at each corner. Then move the house to different plots and those corner decor will be in the same place at each corner. The only way they can make the house movable from plot to plot is to force every plot to be identical in size.
I’m still using a small house. I don’t really care for the medium one on Alliance and I’m thinking of doing something really different and covering it up. I use the small one on Horde because it’s easier to make it look like a Troll house. I can’t imagine how much decor it would cost to hide a medium or large house.
If they added Darkspear Troll exteriors, then I would consider using the larger house sizes but until they give us some nice looking racial exteriors (Night Elf isn’t bad but I’m getting tired of it), I’m going to stick with the small houses.
If only we can preview it without it switching directly to it. I had an entire outdoor setup built around the small house, the moment I checked out medium house it reset its position to the center of the plot. Reverting back to small didn’t help, I couldn’t get it back into the spot it was originally being so tightly placed.
So I’m very reluctant to even switch to large even to see what it looks like that it will mess up my outdoor setup again.
I tried medium for alliance and didn’t like the options so kept it small. I did do medium belf for horde side, but I couldn’t really decide what to do outside so barely have anything out there.
I can’t speak for large until I see it, but considering I want a Pandaren home for alliance and Forsaken for Horde, until I see those, I don’t really know which size I’d end up doing.
Depends on HOW they implement the Large house exterior. The Medium exteriors feature an addition, which can be configured in several ways. It’s been suggested that perhaps the Large house exterior will go vertical, with an increase in height, rather than width.
In any case, the solution I used when I had a Night Elf exterior in Founder’s Point, was just that. Go vertical. You can do this several ways, but what I did was build a platform in the shape of a plus sign. Angled so that it resembled an X from the front. Each arm of the X pointed towards the corners of the plot. I had my medium Nelf house configured so it filled three of the arms, with space in the fourth arm left in case the Large house featured another addition like the Medium house did.
Admittedly, my landscaping was minimal, but this was before the outdoor decor limit increased by 100. So perhaps this approach would be more viable for the garden enthusiasts now.
I can go check them out on the PTR and lay out beams at the boundary lines and then move the house from plot to plot to see if the boundaries still line up.
In the Horde’s Razorwind Shores, Plot 20 and Plot 52 are notorious for their tiny parcels and strictly enforced edges, making it hard to place larger decor.

There are small plots in the Alliance neighborhood too, but I don’t remember the plot numbers.
They are close to the portal though… Up on a small cliff. Great scenery, but small plots.
The smallest plots appeared to me to be half the size of my plot (27)
There’s a discussion about this in the housing Subreddit, too. Someone in the comments linked to a Bluesky post from October that included renders of all the (alleged) housing config options.
Can’t speak to the validity until we actually see it - especially considering Blizz has had every right to change their own asset designs since last October - but fwiw the renders for small and medium configs were 100% spot-on.
Going by the posted renders, it definitely seems the house footprint expands in most cases (especially the human one), so bad news for the “expand vertically, not horizontally” crowd. Although to be fair, they also do expand horizontally.
