Bow down to the bestest most special race that predates all peasants.
Hormnorns are the og night elf night elves now and the origin of all druidism
Somehow haranir remind me of shadowlands, when they took out a Jailor and told that he had been behind all a lot of crucial events starting with warcraft 3, eventhough they created him yesterday.
Same with this race, that was borrowed from an entirely different game that failed, and now presented to us as ancestors of all elves and trolls.
The best part is that they first tried to present them as a âmissing link between trolls and elvesâ, it didnât work, they doubled down on this horrible lore.
Right now going through this 12.0.7 quest chain and hearing âtrolls, elves and haranir are all the same peopleâ just makes me never do any story quests again. I came to love this game for its story, now I am becoming apathetic due to how terrible it is.
If it wasnât for m+, mightâve stopped playing all together.
Ya I hear you, the pve gameplay is solid so Iâve been playing most days but from a story perspective they know better than to rear end pull âthis guy or this race no one has ever seen or heard of is responsible for a-z.â
Im kinda just hitting super low hanging fruit here slandering the new race but the little bit of me that does pay attention to the story gets a big âthats lameâ feeling to just insert some new creation and pretend like they were actually of some importance to the story longer than 30 minutes ago.
The race itself is gorgeous. Iâll give blizz that. But there were much better ways they could have introduced the race.
A simple fix of them being the intermediatory race between troll and elf would have worked better. Since they have the traits of both
they dont, rly, except tusks on the female they have nothing to do with trolls.
a simpler actual fix is making then evolving from night elves, like nithgborne where
I think it actually bothers me more that this Lore blip booty-pull of a race has such a plethora of customization options while some others are rocking about 8 total.
Well, funny story and itâs likely anecdotal due to being on a RP server. But I havenât see many RPing them as Haranir. Iâve everything from Kaldorei, to half trolls, to troll mercenaries and thats just on MG.
Them having a lot of customizations doesnât bother me, what does bother me is blizz refuses to give the rest of the races the same amount of options
The males look absolutely fantastic â mine is the first attractive shaman Iâve ever been able to make of any race. The females, though? Dumpy, and not in a good way. Theyâre large in all the wrong places. And Blizzard managed to recycle my most loathed part of a female Kulâtiran model, the really awful running animation.
I prefer them being split off of Proto-Night Elves.
Mechagnomes are the most egregious offenders.
Speaking of mechagnomes, I am still annoyed we only got one colour variant of their heritage armor even though their mechanical parts have 2 more. Got a mechagnome DK that uses the rusted body parts and I want to use heritage armor but canât because we only got the âsuper upgradeâ version. Aka the one King Mechagon uses.
It just baffles me that a race where nearly half of transmog options are unavailable donât have sets that match those body parts in the other slots.
I will say, I am interested to see what they do with Dracthyr and their heritage armor as they remain the only playable race without one at time of posting.
I, an avid Warcraft 3 fan, am just crying in this corner of the internet bemoaning the fact that we got literal EARTHEN and now these boring as Haranir idiots before we got naga. Like câmon Blizz thereâs much more interesting races already established in universe.
The Haranir look really good and have great Zone(music). They probably would have been better accepted if they had simply been Wild /Cave elves or trolls. Their customization options and overall quality compared to the other races make them the best choice.
They couldâve honestly just argued they were evolved from trolls of multiple tribes â Summoned to Harandar by mysterious magics, that evolved them overtime.
Then later had that a strange travelered from time had taught them druidism, realising the important role they would come to play â Before later having a questline and story, to reveal that such a druid was Malfurion. THAT way, you could still retain that he was the first druid.
or even a secret-pact!
Heck, them even having Freya having a secret pact with Eonar, unknown to Amanâthul, the rest of the titan pantheon and the other titanforged â of who extended that pact to the Haranir, wouldâve been better than what we got too.
Pretty much.
Preaching to the choir
I very much feel the same.
I use to buy the books, read slowly and passionately through the quest dialog, the stay-awhile-and-listens and be absored into the wonderful vast world of the Warcraft universe ⌠And now?
Now it just makes me sigh and shake my head.
The world building destruction, tremendous retcons and obnoxious changes have rendered the world I fell in love with into something entirely different.
The sad fact is?
This isnât the same story-world I fel lin love with.
Many others like yourself, could likely say the same.
but there is no proto-night elves, there was dark trolls then night elves
Night elves, like cockroaches, just become other elves, never ending
Bro, naga, im still waiting for ogres, they were horde in warcraft TWO
we got so three freaking elves and one dwarf in the horde and no ogres, is a crime
and ogres are in the wow hrode sincce wc3 due rexxar
(unles youre that 1 dev then aperently its not the case)
The problem with Naga is that they donât have legs / feet and are heavily water based. The problem with Ogres is probably their size, as theyâre bigger than even Taurens.
I am not defending Blizzard and any of these races make much more sense to add as playable than Haranir. But they do have their technical limitations, eventhough lorewise theyâre integral to WoW history since warcraft 2 /3 .
I personally thought that one of the interesting races horde could get would be Mokânatal (i.e. Rexxar race).
Also, I am tired of neutral races BS, wish they had given Earthens to the Alliance in TWW and Amani to the Horde in Midnight, for example.
Thats not rly a problem seeing how dracthyr and autognomes dont show equiped legs/feet pieces, so it would be the same thing for naga, âheavy water basedâ is a non issue
Ogres are in average smaller than both zandalari and tauren.
If you are playing midnight, check the ogres across the zones, especially the ones in zulâaman and eversong woods, they are the size of an orc.
There is literally no technical limitation, im telling you, is just they being extremely dumb and lazy
I just checked, yeah youâre right, Midnight ogres are slightly smaller than Taurens. Vanilla ogres (e.g. from Tanaris) are still very big, but given that they gave us these new models, they absolutely fit playable race size.
Accommodating their tail on the mount might be tricky, but not impossible to solve. Yeah, I see your point.
I mean I agree, ogres would be nice too.
I think thereâs a couple of ways this could be solved to be honest. The water based thing isnât a problem by itself. I mean the naga conquered Hellfire Peninsula in Warcraft 3, they donât NEED the water, they just prefer it. The legs thing I think can be sorted one of two ways. 1: They kinda just coil their tail up, which could be an easy default sit animation anyway. 2: We give them the dracthyr treatment. Queen Azshara often appears in quests in her night elf form, clearly she has the ability, in a pinch, to resume it somehow. Giving the Naga a proper naga form AND a âvisageâ form that maybe looks like a night elf with scales or somesuch, could be a really clever way to make up for the transmog/mounting problem. I think itâs viable anyway!
Amen to this. It was nice when Allied Races actually meant⌠allied to one of the worldâs political factions LOL.
