Harrassment

I read something about an improvement to group finder that states that if someone from your guild or realm is queued for the same instance, there will be a higher chance that you end up in the same group. That said, if you put the person on ignore, no more problems since ignore would override this.

No, I get that.

I am disagreeing with the things the OP is claiming that are basically impossible. It makes me feel like there is more to the story.

I know a stalker can be. Well. Obsessed.

That doesn’t mean a stalker can suddenly hack WoW and change how things work.

And I get that, but when the OP is changing realms, changing their b-tag, etc. I feel like that comes into play less.

Leave the guild.

Ah ok, I had read a big part of the thread, but not all. So I missed that somewhere.

Well that’s good. Just keep ignoring him on his characters and reporting him. Blizzard will step in if they see you are being harassed. At least they sure used to take these types of things seriously. Let’s hope they still do!

If he continues finding you online, like in-game and other places, you might want to contact the police if it continues. Just because it’s online doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be taken seriously.

I’m going to put a reply here, the limitation of when i can reply to other replies is frustrating. Why do i have to wait to respond to more? Strange forum limitations
To clarify: I’m female.

I want to thank so MANY of you for offering EXCELLENT suggestions on what action to take in the game. When i started experiencing these issues, i was very ignorant on the technical side. Because of that, how words and phrases that are used in these comments
i am ignorant of many. So my responses were disjointed and words may have been incorrectly used when trying to explain what happened, without violating privacy. Since there are 2 ppl that i have known for YEARS, that i am CERTAIN are the initiators & participants of the harassment
there are others who are following, maybe out of ignorance
i don’t know. I could EASILY spill all sorts of info about these two ppl, but I CHOOSE NOT TO. While I guarantee these 2 primary offenders HAVE, twisted it and weaponized it.

I RESENT certain posters
that somehow what i am posting is bs. For those that replied and proceeded to degenerate me? I will no longer clarify my stance with you. It’s not worth expending energy explaining myself to ppl that have NO intention of believing ANYTHING I say. Since an account that can have up to 50 alts, can all those alts post in the forums? If i’m wrong about that, feel free to correct me.

I will rarely post in forums. I had a genuine problem, wanted to post feedback so Blizzard might implement some changes. As much as i google (and it’s alot for this game and most ppl here understand that) yet, when someone seeks answers thru the OFFICIAL blizzard forum and deal with that attitude? I guarantee it turns ppl off for seeking help. Thanks to all who sincerely tried to help. <3

Sorry so long.

What are the chances you’re registered on a site like openraid? Or zergnet or whatever it is now? Sites like that automatically update if you change your own name, server, even faction.

More likely someone on your friends list is telling the stalker who you are. Would look into auditing your bnet friends.

Just out of curiosity what did you do to deserve so much attention? I mean for people to go that far out of their way to harass you? Or are these people just blowhards that have nothing better to do?

My guess is they were in a relationship. That’s usually the only thing that causes so much angst between two people.

Not ‘only’ reason, that’s a very simplistic view for so many potential scenarios that take place within connections within different platforms
and intentions.

People can become obsessed. That’s why celebrities get stalkers. Jodie Foster is a great example who had a stalker that attempted to assassinate former president Ronald Reagan all just to get her attention.

Why do you assume it’s deserved? sigh

Anyone with a credit card can find out where you live and your phone number if they have at least a first and last name to start with and the more they know about you the easier it becomes.

There’s also the fact that law enforcement (and society in general) do not take crimes against men by women seriously.

Yes and if the person harassing you has been playing as long as you say then they likely look at the forums and perhaps even make posts.

That’s how I avoid alt raids :grinning:

people don’t “fall off ignore”.

are you using anything like the BadBoy addon?

(and for the people who want to keep claiming Blizzard don’t do anything about harassment, there’s currently a thread in customer support which shows otherwise. a person is complaining about “disproportionately harsh punishment” for encouraging others to engage in harassment)

That happened to me as well. I had to do a reset on my computer. Could that have reset my ui settings in-game after a new install? Also, i changed realms during that time. Can that effect ignores?

a realm change will wipe your friends list

That’s what I suspect.

Just wanted to check in and make sure the story is still physically impossible and this seems more like wanting attention.

Are you doing things out of order?

Like what I’d do is:

Leave guild.

Change character name.

Change server.

Or whatever the best order would be, not that I’d ever do this in the first place.

There are ways to kind of see what alt you might have, such as mounts collected and stuff. However, that would be next to impossible not also knowing what name/server you were now on.

I think I’m getting the picture that this is a failed romance, with the one party not willing to give up and using their army of bullies.

That is why no one in Internet gaming knows:

  • My name
  • My phone number
  • Any real life details which would help them target me

I’m a GUY, still thinking of the Internet as “stranger danger.” I’m amazed that sometimes people will tell things on the net, they’d never tell a stranger in real life.
