Hard Truths

My IDEAL system would be something like this (used current ilvls to compare):

Ilvl 184 honor gear, upgraded AUTOMATICALLY upon hitting renown rank X to 197 (similar to WQ rewards ilvl bump). Maybe you take your gear to a blacksmith/tailor/whatever npc in your covenant for them to “improve it for battle” for free.

Ilvl 220 Conquest set with each PIECE being independently locked by rating increments similar to Wotlk.

Then finally an Ilvl 233 weapon for glad as a permanent trophy/etc with it’s own color/mog/etc.

BUT (here’s the kicker) I want them do one of the following:
Either:
A. Reintroduce resilience as a stat exclusive on pvp gear, make it mandatory for success in arena.

B. Change the 2 set bonus on the current trinket to require EVERY SINGLE PIECE of gear to be Sinful (or give X% bonus per piece of Sinful) AND make it apply waaaaay harder and to both offensive AND defensive stats.

close enough its double stam buff from priest so 4k free extra health

I dont believe you know how rank latters work. You are suppose to fight players equal to your skill at your MMR. The fact is that there is so many carries going on that people who are supposed to be at 1400 / 1600 / 1700 / 1800 are pushed down the latter due to facing players that are pro. It’s like saying a Global ranked CSGO player helping silvers is fair play. Exempt it is more prominent in the WoW community.

as soon as we make it about player skill alone, its absolutely not a wow problem.
Smurfing happens in literally every game, and rampantly. League? smurfs. Overwatch? smurfs. Chess ffs? smurfs.

Theres 2 distinct mindsets when it happens. Players that unable to be self critical will blame the system for their loss. Players who really want to improve are instead really happy they got the chance to experience their own gameplay vs the best players in the game, and make adjustments accordingly.

Why not just make elite gear cosmetic and give different prizes for ratings that don’t have to do with item lvl.

I don’t get why a gear incentive is needed to push. I’d wager most high rated arena players are not playing for gear. Having a cool looking 2k or 2200 enchant or xmog is enough motivation. Look at pallies who still have their red s11 cata elite gear… I missed that xmog by 100 points and I’m still salty. That’s a better motivation to me than +15 agility or whatever.

Best case would be everyone is on an equal playing field so skill matters the most. Remove the rng vault and rating tied to upgrades.

Boosting is massively deflating the arena ladder. If they had glad cutoff right now it would be slightly above 2k rating. But sure let’s just pretend everything is normal

The games you mentioned all contain a team of 5. We are talking about 2s here. It is far easier to carry 1 player than it is 4 players. Also those games are FREE to play and equal in terms of GEAR. Talk about self critical. 2s smurfing can EASILY be solved by removing rank requirement for higher iLvL gear.

oh ok youre just trolling. I literally mentioned chess. People smurf in chess, a skill based 1v1 game.

Are gear advantages silly? sure. but your original post said that the point of mmr was to put people near your SKILL level. so im responding to that.

If you think equal gear is going to stop high rated players from coming down to the rat leagues to dunk on noobs youre just dead wrong.

Chess? CHESS? Who cares about Chess. Honestly, why mention chess when it is not even considered a video game.

“Are gear advantages silly? sure. but your original post said that the point of mmr was to put people near your SKILL level. so im responding to that.”

Yes, which im right. And your response was “people smurf in all games” Which is the problem, dont you think? The fact that WoW makes it really easy is a MAJOR problem. In which your response is “so?”

“If you think equal gear is going to stop high rated players from coming down to the rat leagues to dunk on noobs youre just dead wrong.”

They are, far less of them will have no incentive of doing so since there won’t be anything to gain.

Faced this last night extremely tilting. We had him dead I don’t how many times.

True, which again is not a 15k health difference.

people sold carries while scaling existed. When you take away ilvl and replace it with cosmetic rewards you swap out the mouth-breathing pve’rs for mouth-breathing tmog collectors and the cycle goes on.

checkmate.

oh and if manually dropping my mmr gave me the chance to dunk on you in-game id probably do it just for fun. You know, like smurfs in the other games we mentioned.

Depends how you see it. If someone expects soloQ will somehow fix the fact they’re stuck at a specific rating, yes they will be.

If someone just wants soloQ just to be allowed to play the game regardless of result, literally just be allowed to press their buttons in the Arena PvP format. No they won’t be.

Here’s another truth, there’s a point where people just get fed up and stop playing a game they can’t play. Its not 2004 where there’s about only 3-4 fun online games out there anymore, its 2021 where its companies desperately grasping at everyone’s attention to milk them out of their money. There’s other source of entertainment out there.

It’s a terrible model for a competitive game mode.

Cosmetic rewards were 1.8k - 2.2k

And to state cosmetics are the same as gear that actually has higher stats is ridiculous. No one is stating boosters won’t exist. We are stating that it exist and there needs to be a solution to reduce the incentive. Trust me, the amount of people asking for carries now wouldn’t be the same as it would with cosmetics, specially when cosmetics are around 1.8k to 2.2k. I do not believe you can critically think my man.

I think it was…2 posts ago you acknowledged that smurfing and boosts exist (just as much) in games that literally have NO INCENTIVE.

Oh, but smurfing in those games doesn’t matter cause it’s not 2v2 right…idk if you’ve seen a 0.1% player carry in those games but 1v9 doesn’t matter.

Dk gets 10% more health, so subtract 3k hp to be like other classes.
