Yea but I don’t see them communing with elementals…. Unless they consider them “nature spirits”? Not sure
Why not? They are surround by it, and lightning is considered nature damage for a reason, its a natural force tied to nature, same as wind, storms, and rain. The Haranir are a very primal focus people, both shamanism and druidism leans heavy on that. Elemental focus is just one part of it. They for sure are more druidic, but I don’t think it would be a hard sell for a handful to go a different route.
Cause they have zero presence in Harandar, and none of the characters there talk about elementals, I am not even sure they know those realms exist.
Maybe I am asking too much, but I always liked it when Blizzard showed or at least explained in game the class background for each race, instead of leaving us the task of “imagining” or headcanoning it.
Sums up the Haranir in general. No one asked for or needed this and they make 0 sense. But here we are.
There’s a literal group of Haranir shaman dancing around totems in the Den. They are very aware of the elements.
Probably from the mists we see spaced out in the zone like in Gulf of Memory. A companion for their god seemed to of been a pandarian serpent like the ones of the jade forest. I think I saw an image of him fly on the out edge of the zone and we can get him as a mount.
In the raid the sky box is green like the emerald dream/mist walkers but I don’t know if that adds anything to it.
For shamen, the fifth element was life which we slightly see in resto shaman. Also the way to their old zone before it was cut was an underwater lake which could mean a connection to water element.
For spirts it could be their drawings as an expression of this. You can also find haranir spirts if interact with some objects like the pillow and alter top the mountain.
But with so much of their things cut out this is the best I got.
oh dang, they shove some npcs labelled as a thing and doing another thing
Clearly that is all that it takes to proper explain why they are shamans and can be shamans
Also, if they can contact the elements and demons, as warlocks, this would mean they were not reclusive enough and someone would have discovered about them eventually
Hey I never said the explanation wasn’t stupid. Only that there is one.
well fair enough
You realize that the Haranir are trolls that went underground a very long time ago right? They cover it in a cutscene during the storyline. That’s why they look so close to trolls with their tusks but also look like elves. Elves are a forced evolution of trolls brought on by the well of eternity. That’s also why they have a more tribalistic culture like the trolls.
Awesome idea. For mage I just assume some found leylines down underground and picked up spellcasting aptitude from settling around the leylines. No doubt earth elementals, who have pretty consistently been shown to be ornery and aggressive, were a constant cause of terror to the haranir not settled in Harandar, so they may have picked up shamanism to try to commune with them.
I just assumed that Haranir warlocks were just curse wielders/shadow mages.
Overstretched art department. Blizzard relies HEAVILY on contractor work for their art department from my understanding.
There’s also the cynical angle where if all races could be all classes than they would have barely anything to market to the players when a new expansion gets announced outside of the basic “new zones” and “new raids”
