Good change.
Thanks, Blizzard. ![]()
I don’t feel that bad anymore. These Haronir are a bunch of useless wannabes pretending to be mighty protectors of the world when in fact they are a joke.
It’s a shame they are trying to steal NE thunder but at least they are where theh belong, beneath us.
This just makes sense. They look like the middle picture of a Troll animorphing into a Nelf.
So having them be this missing link just tracks.
Good deal. I was starting to get a big worried that blizz would be dense enough to take one of the trolls’ coolest traits and give it to these haranir goobers.
Or more likely a different divergent branch, that may have left the area of the Well during the Trolls long stay there.
There’s an interesting troll family tree waiting to be written.
Thats a bad change… but was even a change? didnt we all though it was the case?
It would make more sense if they evolved from night elves to be more feral, since they look like night elves and NOTHING like trolls.
The best would still make then evolved from quilboar, but that is asking too much from blizzard
I am not 100% sure I buy that logic, as they went out of their way in the alpha to beta transition to remove all references to them being trolls from their lore info; they speak now as if they never had even met a troll before. As far as their histories show, they were always Haranir.
So I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but

It is not looking so good
They shouldn’t be this. Being a different branch is fine. Having been the first and taking away from both Trolls and Night Elves isn’t good. They gotta stop with these contrived, retconned races and characters. Just shoe-horning them in to having always been a thing, we just weren’t aware isn’t well received. They should have learned this lesson from the First Ones. Write new lore, don’t try to go back to change old lore. It’s always seen as crapping on it.
Yeah.. I am 99% sure the Haranir are intended to be the common ancestor from which both Trolls and Elves descend. Some found another (far more active) goddess to give them purpose and became the Kaldorei, while others became the Zandalari, from which all the other troll tribes descended.
If those datamined world tree blessings are for them tho and not like a zone buff im still gonna be laughing at it lmao
Again: very problem would be solved if the harranir were evolved quilboar
Portergauge makes an incorrect assumption in this post. Nothing in the screenshots here mentions Dark Trolls.
In the beta Blizzard also removed all mentions of Troll connections to Haranir that had been in the alpha.

He doesn’t make an incorrect assumption, this dialogue mentions the Haranir traveling deeper and deeper down Mount Hyjal, which hints at a connection with the Dark Trolls since they hailed from the cave system beneath Mount Hyjal.
The assumption that is incorrect is that Haranir descended from Dark Trolls, rather than being a separate race entirely. Alternative that Haranir are the ancestors of Trolls, but given that Trolls supposedly came from Zandalar that seems less likely.
The thing to keep in mind here is that Zandalar at the time of the Troll Tribes all forming and branching out wasn’t far from Mount Hyjal. It was very close to the center of “Old Kalimdor” before the sundering when all of this would have been happening.
To me, the Haranir shouldn’t even be a thing within WoW. What purpose do they serve in the story that the Night Elves, Druid factions, Satyrs, etc. can’t already serve for the playerbase?
The whole bit involving the roots of the various world trees just feels like it would have been far better to use pre-existing races to help flesh them out/give them more screen time but instead we have to suffer through yet another unwanted allied race that will get dropped just as quickly as they were introduced
They’re a creation of Danuser which should tell you everything you need to know about them.
If you want more information than that the Haranir are a repurposing of a race called the “Hironar” which are Wood Elves from Kingdoms of Amalur (sp?) which the MMO that Danuser used to write for before he came to Blizzard.
Recycling is really the only thing Danuser was ever capable of doing. You can see it with the Dracthyr which are just “Oh the Chromatic Dragonflight? Well actually Neltharion did this way before Nefarion did and he did it WAY better and way cooler.”
”Oh the Scourge? Well ACTUALLY they’re just a sad imitation of Maldraxxus which is totally cooler and better in every way.”
”The Haranir? Well they’re actually way cooler and better than both the Night Elves and the Trolls and they’re the original from all the way back in the beginning. They’re the real OGs.”
He’s creatively bankrupt.
The Hironar are an ancient race of wild, militant wood elves, who have existed since the time of King Ysa. They, along with the Fae, serve as protectors to the mortal, sentient tree Attiru, a tree apart of the Ring of Keozai, and the one that keeps many forgotten, mortal secrets.
oh god, its so cringe ![]()
they shouldnt, but at least they coming from quilboar would make more sense than just a night elf plus
The well of eternity itself was close. Mount Hyjal, based on the chronicles maps, seems closer to Azjol-nerub than the Zandalar Mountains.
